A reproduction of her Naas second from back in January should be good enough to see Barrier get off the mark. The form of that particular race has worked out well subsequently, so it would be disappointing if the Gordon Elliott trained filly can’t give Jack Kennedy another winner on his quest for a maiden jockeys’ championship. Malbay Madness, who was rated higher than Barrier on the flat, rates a live threat. The Emmet Mullins-trained four-year-old has shown up nicely on two starts over flights but there has to be a suspicion that connections have one eye on Galway.

Dual bumper winner Gaillimh A Run appears to have bright prospects of gaining a first success over hurdles. Twice successful to date, the John Queally-trained mare ran a big race when stepped up in class at the Aintree Festival last April. After two promising efforts since switching to jumps, the seven-year-old should be ready to make the breakthrough here.
Magic Dawn has a bit of a mixed profile but if at her best, the Gordon Elliott-trained mare can get involved. Her Leopardstown second last month was a decent run in the context of this race.

Prince Palace needs to put a couple of disappointing runs behind him but has every chance if doing so. Pat Fahy’s six-year-old reached the frame in both maiden and handicap company earlier in the season but failed to progress of late. However, off a rating of 117, receiving weight from the two previous winners in the race, he holds strong claims. Former bumper winner Crooked Tannie proved costly for punters when suffering an odds-on reversal at Leopardstown last time. He will need to step up considerably but on his previous effort he would be one of the chief dangers.

Mighty Jeremy can resume winning ways having run below par when pulled up at Gowran Park in February. Prior to that, the Liam O’Brien-trained gelding had easily beaten a horse who went on to win twice subsequently. A former course winner here, the 10-year-old should well enjoy returning to a tight track where he can make the running.
West Away won at Cork in early December before running very well in a better race at Leopardstown over Christmas. Having been brought down on his only subsequent start, the John McConnell-trained gelding remains open to further improvement.

Sweet Will has shown enough on four starts since joining Emmet Mullins to suggest he retains ability. Runner-up on his stable debut back in December, the form of that race now looks particularly strong given the subsequent exploits of both the winner and third. Nicely handicapped relative to his hurdles mark, the gelding can strike in this ordinary contest. Course and distance winner Willywampus has been a credit to connections of late. A no-nonsense front runner, he should again make a bold bid to make every post a winning one.

Erigmoor can make a winning debut for the Gordon Elliott stable. Formerly trained in the UK, the six-year-old shaped well when reaching the frame on a few occasions. Elliott does particularly well with his recruits from other yards and the fact that championship chasing Jack Kennedy sticks around to take the ride could prove significant. Mahlers Cove ran well when third over hurdles at Naas earlier this month. A couple of those behind him have come out and franked that form since and he is better handicapped over fences. However, a slight concern would be the fact he has failed to trouble the judge on three previous runs at this track.

The locally trained mare Doyen Ta Win could prove hard to peg back if adopting her customary front running tactics. A three-time winner over flights last winter, the Declan Queally- trained six-year-old makes her first start over fences at this, her local track. Provided experience doesn’t prove her downfall then she can record a fourth career success. Henn See will appreciate this easier task having been pulled up in a listed handicap chase when last seen. Trainer Willie Mullins will be anxious to help stable jockey Paul Townend claim another jockeys’ championship so this entry is sure to have been well thought out.
