BRENDAN Murphy enjoyed a good day at Mullingar Equestrian for the second Dublin Horse Show young horse qualifiers, winning the six-year-old qualifier with Sean Mulkern’s ABS Misty.

With 12 tickets up grabs and 86 starters in the class, the competition went down to the wire.

Bred by her owner, ABS Misty is by Tyson out of the Clover Brigade mare Minnie Clover who jumped to 1.40m level. The winners were the fastest of seven double clears in 40.93 seconds.

Harry Wood partnered the Ennisnag Stud owned and bred ESI Lucius (Cardento x Cavalier) into second when clear in 41.34. Woods secured a second qualifying sport when he also accounted for fifth place with Ennisbag Stud’s VDL Stud-bred Mendoza VDL (Harley VDL x Cardento), clear in 43.29.

Slotting into third place was Patrick Hickey with the Simon McCarthy-owned mare Silverteal Indigo (Emerald x Lux Z), bred by Paschal McCarthy, when he answered all the questions in 42.25. The Garyrichard Stud rider was another to bag two qualfiying tickets when he also took fourth place with his brother William’s gelding Balinagore Quantum (Castlecomer Q x Lancelot). They delivered a clear in 42.54.

A clear from Jason Higgins on the Meabh Bolger-owned MBF Be Blue in 44.28 was good enough for sixth place. Little separated the next placing as Darragh Ryan lodged the last double clear with his own Royal Majestic D’or in a time of 44.33 for seventh.

John Mulligan put in a very fast round with Bernard Reynold’s Kathleens Candy Clover, clocking 36.25, but four faults saw him settle for eighth, still within the qualifying slots. Oisin Aylward also had one on the ground with Ennisnag Stud’s ESI Indigo for ninth. Richard Kerins finished on four faults with Susanne Kerins’ RSK Quality Cruise to take 10th place, ahead of Dermott Lennon and Gerry Marron’s Kinmar Right On Time. Claiming the last ticket in this division was young rider Katie Power with Powers Equine’s Starfield Brighteye.
