SUELITA has been a fine advertisement for the Tattersalls December Sales. Not only did her sons Alkumait and Chaldean both sell there as foals, but she herself was sourced there as a broodmare prospect by Whistbury Manor Stud.

Castletown Stud sold the Dutch Art filly as a four-year-old, when the three-time Italian winner’s greatest claim was to be a half-sister to Cornwallis Stakes runner-up Outer Space.

Her page has developed like a dream since, all seven of her runners winning, five of them blacktype. Suelita’s latest chapter unfolds on Friday, when her Frankel filly will be offered as Lot 945.

The own-sister to dual Group 1 winner Chaldean is one of seven Frankel foals catalogued on the day, in what is considered the most exciting session of the four-day sale.

Another three of Frankel’s foals are siblings of group winners, one is out of a listed winner, while the remaining pair are out of Group 1 winners in Audarya (Lot 936) and Glass Slippers (Lot 927).

Sire power

Just like Suelita, Whitsbury Manor Stud resident Havana Grey has come a long way since he graced the Tattersalls sales ring, the son of Havana Gold selling for 42,000gns as a foal.

Sold by Mickley Stud to Crimbourne Stud, the grey is even more successful at stud than he was on the track and was the leading sire by turnover at last year’s December Foal Sale. His 42 foals produced an aggregate totalling over 2.7million guineas, and may come close to that figure next week with 39 catalogued.

They include a full-brother to Group 3 winner and twice Group 1-placed Shouldvebeenaring (Lot 892). Fellow Whitsbury sire Sergei Prokofiev is responsible for 65 lots- the largest number by any sire in the catalogue.

Kingman sat second in last year’s sire table, by both turnover and average, and after a terrific season, should go close with next week’s 10. Night Of Thunder’s foals were in high demand at Goffs and, after withdrawals, the Kildangan Stud sire has 10 to be offered at Tattersalls.

Seven consignors each have one foal by Wootton Bassett to sell, with McCracken Farms set to present a close relation to Group 1 Dubai Turf winner Facteur Cheval.

The Co Down farm is known to consistently offer quality foals at Park Paddocks and offer just two next week. The other, a Sioux Nation colt, is sure to be popular after his Blue Point half-sister was resold by Mountain View Stud at the venue’s Book 1 sale for 725,000gns, having cost Barry Mahon and Michael Fitzpatrick’s Good Will Bloodstock 165,000gns the previous year. While it may have been slightly difficult viewing for the McCracken family, they will recognise the importance of pinhookers turning a profit, as the foal sales rely on their spending.

They and other foal consignors must have breathed a sigh of relief witnessing the strong trade at Goffs this week, pinhookers seemingly focussed on the recent memories of Kia Joorabchian and co, rather than a season of mixed trade at the yearling sales.

In order to give buyers more time to view foals, Thursday will be dedicated to viewing, bookended by two days of selling.

The sale will get under way from 11am on Tuesday, November 26th, and from 10am on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
