WHO will be the key players at next Thursday’s Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale?

Curragh trainer Michael O’Callaghan bough the joint top-lot last year and it turned out to be Twilight Jet, winner of the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes.

That colt was sold by Tally-Ho Stud, who also sold dual Group 1 winner Perfect Power at this sale a year ago. The Mullingar nursery has 17 youngsters in the catalogue next week.

Aguiar Bloodstock and its racing partner Amo Racing are sure to be prominent again. Robson Aguiar has eight horses heading to Doncaster.

Industry observers will be watching to see if perennial leading buyers Blandford Blodstock, John Dance (Manor House Stud), Rabbah Bloodstock are as busy as in previous years.

Tom Goff’s Blandford Bloodstock signed for Perfect Power on behalf of Dubai owner Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum, who can be expected to invest again, following his successful staging of a Goffs-led breeze-up sale in Meydan last month.

Perfect Power was the third Norfolk Stakes winner in six years to come from this sale. The £110,000 son of Ardad (who was also bought at this sale) went on to win the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes for trainer Richard Fahey.

Last year’s sale also produced Light Infantry, winner of the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury for trainer David Simcock. He was another Blandford Bloodstock purchase.

Selling takes place on Thursday only next week, two days after all 180-plus lots breeze across Town Moor. Wednesday is reserved for inspections.

The catalogue boasts a strong sire profile with multiple entries from leading stallions including Dark Angel, Exceed And Excel, Invincible Spirit, Kingman, Kodiac, Night Of Thunder, No Nay Never, Showcasing and young sires including Ardad, Churchill, El Kabeir, Expert Eye, Harry Angel, Kessaar, Mehmas, Profitable, Sioux Nation, Tasleet, U S Navy Flag and Zoustar.

A supplementary lot (110A) was added this week. This is a colt by Clodovil from Roderic Kavanagh’s Glending Stables.

Goffs UK managing director Tim Kent said: “This sale has enjoyed another huge 12 months. For an annual auction of less than 200 horses to produce, since 2016, a Group 1 Prince Of Wales’ Stakes winner, Listed Windsor Castle Stakes winner, Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner and three of the last six Group 2 Norfolk Stakes winners, is truly remarkable.

“Furthermore, last season we saw the latest star to emerge in Perfect Power, who extended the sale’s Royal Ascot record to six winners in six years, before going on to claim two Group 1 races and take his place among the very best graduates this sale has produced in its 40-plus year history.”
