AFTER a strong yearling sales season, we can expect pinhookers to get stuck in at next week’s four-day Goffs November Foal Sale.

The the first of over 1,000 flat-bred foals in the catalogue will enter the sales ring at Kill next Monday morning. There is a slightly different format to the four-day sale this year. Foals are catalogued alphabetically by dam each day from Monday to Thursday inclusive. Monday and Thursday are of similar quality. Prices will likely rise on Tuesday and Wednesday’s session has the most blacktype pedigrees.

Galileo died this year and the only foals on offer in Europe this year by the late great sire are in this sale, with three catalogued.

There are also three foals by Frankel in the sale.

This sale is seen as primarily for the pinhookers but end-users have also found gems here. Three-time Group 1 winner Alcohol Free was bought to race by her owner Jeff Smith as a foal at Goffs November, as was the recent Keeneland Grade 1 winner Blowout for Chad Brown and owner Peter Brant who purchased her as a November Foal. Last season’s World’s Best Racehorse Ghaiyyath is another excellent example, having been purchased by Godolphin at the November Foal Sale.

Other Group 1 graduates include catalogue cover horse Romantic Proposal, who was pinhooked from the November Sale by Amy Lynam and won the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend. River Boyne was a Grade 1 winner in the US last year having been pinhooked from the November Sale, while Thundering Nights, winner of the 2021 Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes, was also offered for sale as a foal in November.

There were numerous touches landed at the 2021 yearling sales by Goffs November Foals, headed by the half-brother to Lucky Vega that was pinhooked from €300,000 to a €630,000 yearling at the Orby Sale this year.

The Orby also saw a €70,000 November Foal resell for €270,000, a €30,000 foal become a €150,000 yearling and €75,000 grow to €225,000, while elsewhere a €260,000 November purchase returned a mighty profit of over €730,000.
