THE ever-consistent LVS Goldrush H won the seven-year-old HSI Studbook Series final at Barnadown on Sunday.

Ridden by Ethan Ahearne, the gelding is by Stakkato Gold out of Arcadia LVS Z (by Stakkatoand) and is owned by Dermot Walsh.

A total of 24 combinations lined out for the class which carried a prize fund of €2,880. Just eight riders posted a clear in the first round to progress to the timed decider.

Pathfinder Clem McMahon and Mr Basil (Plot Blue x Hermes De Reve) had one fence down for four faults in a time of 40.07 for eventual sixth place.

Second to go, Brendan Murphy riding Shirsheen Calensky (Cornet Obolensky x Regal Sting) had two down plus one time fault to finish on nine faults.

Abbie Sweetnam and Dora The Explorer produced the first double clear round as third to go. They crossed the finish line in a time of 42.43 for eventual fifth place.

Mr Kannan Ball (Kannan x Beach Ball), ridden by Jonathan Smyth, then posted a fault-free round in a slightly faster time of 40.17 for fourth. Robert Splaine and the Goodluck VDL gelding Coolcoran Lachlan also lodged a double clear, theirs coming just a fraction faster in 39.39 for third.

Aherne was next aboard LVS Goldrush H. Despite taking a tumble in the practice arena beforehand, they too left all the fences intact but managed to slice over two seconds off the leading time in 37.55.

Jonathan Smyth and his second mount Mulvin Springball (Beach Ball x HHS BR Charlton) joined the four-faulters with one fence on the ground in 40.19.

Last to go, Tomas Doyle and Moonbeg Ruby (Diamant de Semilly x Boherdeal Clover) came closest to catching the leader when they posted a clear round in 38.94 which would leave them in the runner-up spot.

Six-year-olds

MMG Candy Lady, a mare by Sligo Candy Boy, out of Sligo Lord Carthago, by Lord Z, won the six-year-olds when ridden by Francis Derwin. The pair posted a jump off time of 45.61 in the 12-way decider to take the win. Second place went to Zazu BW (Je T’aime Flamenco x Montreux) and Carl Webb in 46.30 for owners Bravo Hughes Ltd.

Shane O’Reilly rode BWE Special Rose (I’m Special De Muze x Camilo De Haar Z) into third place in 46.85, while Harry Wood and the stallion ESI Lucius (Cardento x Cavalier) were fourth. Fifth went to The Wayfarer (Garryduff Jar of Hearts x Taloubet Z), ridden by James Joyce. Kevin Gallagher and BP Rocket Man (Stakkato Gold x Quidam Junior) were sixth.

In the five-year-old final, some 19 of the 45 starters managed to produce a double clear round to divide first place. The next round takes place at Cavan Equestrian on May 20th.
