FRANKING the form of the Cavan Crystal five-year-old final at Cavan earlier this year, Luke Campbell and Kilcorig Leonidas returned to the venue last week to land Sunday’s five-year-old final in the main area.

Owned by Sophie Dunn, the Womanizer gelding, who is out of Kilcorig Little Meeka (breeding unrecorded), was one of just six double-clear rounds in the final.

Campbell’s second-round time of 39.93 gave them the lion’s share of the €1,000 on offer, sponsored by Patricia Foley, well ahead of closest rival and runner-up My Big Star Marie ridden by Vincent Byrne.

By Big Star out of Kwanta Da Vida (Heartbreaker), the KWPN mare is owned by Kayleigh Soden and was bred by Louise Nyberg. They stopped the clock in 41.98 seconds.

Young rider Harry Wood was third with Ennisnag Stud’s home-bred ISH stallion ESI Lucius (Cardento x Cavalier) in 45.49, while Shane Goggins and Dara O’Malley’s home-bred gelding DPS Starboy Z (Dominator 2000 Z x Indoctro) took fourth in 47.68

GMH Sporthorses’ mare GMH Monte Bella (Tyson x Cruising) was guided into fifth by Grace McHugh, while Mary Boland’s Dutch-bred Make My Day and Abigail Boland took sixth.
