ON Sunday at the Amateur Championships in Cavan, sportsmember Hannah McCrory took the win in the 90cm Welcome Stakes. Riding Killedmond Silver, she was the fastest of 22 clears in 29.74.
Little stood between the next placing as junior rider Lauren Kavanagh and Baxters Miss Taison took the runner-up spot, when they stopped the clock in 30.02. Miriam Davies and the five-year-old Grangers Roland took third, when they came home in 30.05. Less than a second behind was Pauline Burke and Danagher, in 30.61 for eventual fourth. Darielle O’Sullivan and One Kamula slotted into fifth when they came home in 30.83, while in sixth was Marie Molloy and Doonard Melody in 31.92.
Leading the victory lap in the SJI (A Section) Two-Phase Challenge was Danielle Logan and Demero, when clear in 24.65. The runner-up spot belonged to Edwina O’Connor and Ashwood Reggie, clear in 26 seconds, while in third was Val Ward and Venture in 26.10. Robyn Hartley and RH Live For Now took fourth, when they delivered a clear in 27.92, while in fifth was Rebekah Tansey and Cherished in 28.11, ahead of Aoife Maguire and Pharos Hazy Cove, clear in 28.29.
In the AA section, it was Karen Broderick and Earl Greys Last Cruise that took the win, when they were fastest of 17 double clears in 25.12. Louise Craig and Cherry Wine took second when clear in 25.73, while in third was Nicole Fox and Bluestones Ludo, clear in 26.48. Gwyn Yemm was back in the line-up, this time taking fourth with Doonini Z, when clear in 27.82, ahead of Caroline Ryan and Marlow ELJ, clear in 28.33. Completing the top six was Stephanie Forde and Merlins Vixen, in a time of 29.54.
Grand Prix
The last class of the day, the Veredus Grand Prix saw 53 combinations battle it out between A and AA riders. Claiming the win in the A section was Jessie O’Flynn Hall and MMS Loreal, when they were fastest of just two double clears in 39.62. The second clear came courtesy of Fiona Tansey and Talbots Lass, when they crossed the line in 40.97. Vanessa Sweeney put in a very fast round with Woodbank Clover, clocking 38.23, but one on the ground meant they had to settle for third. Alex Butler also had one down with Ringfort Rubys Cruise, but in a slower time of 38.23 for fourth place. Liam Hennessy and Leanorth Grey Matter finished with one down in 41.42 for fifth place, ahead of Edel Kelly and Agustina, in 41.46.
In the AA section, of the 22 that went to post, eight delivered double clears. Taking the win was Louise Craig and Cherry Wine, when they stopped the clock in 32.99.
Nicole Fox and Bluestones Ludo took the longer lines and came home in 35.22 for second place. Frances Kealey and Danny Boy II took third, when clear in 36.50, while in fourth was Sarah Kate O’Donovan and Diamond Infinity, clear in 37.50. Gwyn Yemm collected another prize, when she partnered Doonini Z into fifth, when they stopped the clock in 37.98. Sixth place was filled by Cora Horan and Coronado, when they crossed the line in 39.72.
