SORCHA Hennessy’s Inlaws Manolo, with Derek McConnell in the saddle, won the seven-year-old HSI Studbook Series final at Maryville. This was the pair’s second victory in the league having taken the win at Barnadown at the beginning of May.

Tom Holden had set a challenging 1.30m track for the 17-strong field. Just six of the 17 left all the fences intact to progress to the decider.

Killavallig Farm Ltd’s Belgian-bred mare Pinaki Van Del Dael I (I Am Moerhoeve’s Star x Eros Platiere), ridden by Abbie Sweetnam, was first to go. They produced another clear round in a time of 33.95 to set the pace.

Next in, Francis Connors aboard Raymond McChesney’s RNH Valentino (Van Gogh x Beach Ball) provided another faultless round in 33.15 for eventual third place.

McConnell was third to go. He guided Inlaws Manolo (Corland x Lord Z) to a clear round in a fast time of 30.84 to secure the victory.

Paddy O’Donnell and his own OCS Tolan (Tolan R x Touchdown) also managed to post a second clear round, theirs coming in 36.92 for fifth place.

Paul Beecher riding his father Tim’s Loughnatousa Olaf (Cruising Harry) were last to go, they made a great effort; leaving all the fences up but failed to catch the time, stopping the clock at 32.72 for the runner-up spot.

Marti Rudd’s Monbeg Ruby, ridden by Tomas Doyle, dominated in the six-year-old division. By Diamant de Semilly, she is out of Ballycapple Mist, whose sire Boherdeal Clover competed up to Nations Cup level for the Army Equitation School. The duo recorded a second round time of 35.42 in the 17-way jump-off for the win.

Lisdara Clooney (Cruising Arish x Touchdown), owned by Dan Galavan and ridden by Gemma Phelan, took second place after recording a second clear in a time of 35.73.

Owner/rider Charlotte Jacobs guided Pablo C (Pollux De Muze Z x Pacino) into third in 35.77, while young rider Orla Queally and Kilnamac Maud (OBOS Quality x Lux Z) took fourth place in 35.90. Fifth went to Michael Ormond’s Kylemore Lady (Kannan x Cardento) and Linda Moloney, while the sixth and final place went to Bravo Hughes Ltd’s HHS Tokyo with Carl Webb aboard.

The five-year-old final saw 29 combinations go to post. Of these nine kept a clean sheet over both rounds to divide first place. They included BBH Alaska (Linda Moloney); Starfield Brighteye (Katie Power); Lady May Lou (Shane Moloney); Sea Isabella (Taylor Cummins); Laurina (Leah Stack); Krafty Krackers (Tholm Keane) Boherdeal Russel (Tholm Keane); MHS Las Vegas (Paddy O’Donnell) and BP High Life (Leah Stack).
