IN a double bill of the series, the Equijump Ltd Pony Spring Tour came to an exciting close last weekend. The penultimate round took place at The Meadows on Saturday while the final took place at Portmore on Sunday.

Taking the 128cm 85cm title after a consistent campaign was DJ Kent while Charlie Flynn took two titles, the 128cm Championhip and 138cm Championship. Holly Maher was crowned the 148cm Champion while Robbie Sheehan was crowned the Children on Horses champion.

Leading the victory lap in the 128 85cm U10 Spring Tour and RUAS U10 Qualifier was DJ Kent and Paris, who were clear in 28.73. Hot on the winner’s heels was Tim Hawkins and Whistletown Blue Belle who delivered a clear in 28.83. Megan Hannaway and Lucky Number put in a great attempt, stopping the clock in 29.37 for third. Hannaway also took fourth with Princess Vicky, coming home clear in 32 seconds. Slotting into fifth was Bobby O’Keeffe and The Candy Stripe Man in 32.46 while Hannaway completed the hat trick when she took sixth with Suzie of Skyhill, clear in 32.63.

Charlie Flynn and Penchwintan Glynle have certainly been a force to be reckoned with in this division and they didn’t disappoint as they took the win in the 128cm 1m when fastest of nine double clears in 28.91.

Not content with the win, Flynn also took third with Kilcreene Granite, in 32.72. Separating his placing was Eunan Kelly and Tynwydd Alun in 30.28. Alayna Hawkins and Ballynacregga Red took fourth in 33.82. Accounting for fifth place was Medb Kinney and Leiiaish Lady Penelope (36.32) while in sixth was Caoimhe Murphy and The NutCracker in 39.91.

Munster’s Charlie Flynn was certainly on form this weekend as he also took first and second in the 138cm 1.10m division. Riding Knud van Orchid’s, he delivered the winning clear in 26.71. Riding Harefield Diego a clear in 27.91 saw him take second, ahead of Johan Fitzpatrick Burns and Sergeant Jack, clear in 29.46. Fourth place belonged to Elizabeth McCracken and Tynan Rocket, clear in 29.61. Sharing fifth place was Zoe Mellett (Fredaine de Blonde) and Caitlin Kelly (Lurganmore Little Rocket) when delivering clears in 30.42.

Double victory for Adams

Winner of the 148cm 1.20m Spring Tour section was Wexford’s Lauren Adams and Corradino Du Bary when fastest of 14 double clears in 38.29. Following closely behind was Holly Maher and Boulabeha’s Little Princess in 39.65, while in third was Jack Kent and HKS Salome in 40.83. Slotting into fourth was Claudia Carroll and Attyrory Warrior in 43.16. Sharing fifth place was Gary Dooley (Shamrock du Gite) and Alexandra Kiernan (Sweet Renees Girl) when they both stopped the clock in 44.06.

Winner of the Children on Horses 1.10/1.20m when they delivered the only double clear was Adam Adair and Remake Lande in a time of 43.31. This combination also claimed victory in the final at Portmore when they delivered the only double clear in 40.41.

Portmore final

Sunday’s Final saw both DJ Kent and Tim Hawkins repeat the previous day’s results with Kent taking the win aboard Paris when clear in 24.32 in the 128cm 85cm U10 Spring Tour and Balmoral Qualifer.

Hawkins took second place with Whistletown Blue Belle, clear in 25.75, while in third was Sonny McGovern and Parc Giggles, clear in 27.01. Accounting for fourth place was Alice Steele and A Little Fairplay, clear in 28.28, while Megan Hannaway returned to the line-up taking fifth with Suzie of Skyhill, clear in 29.91. Sixth place belonged to Blathnaid Murphy and Little Bob, clear in 30.12.

Charlie Flynn put another win on the board at the final when he delivered a clear with Penchwintan Glynle in 32.33 in the 128cm 1m class. Alayna Hawkins was also back in the ribbons taking second with Ballynacregga Red, clear in 33.32. In a repeat of the previous day’s result, Charlie Flynn also claimed third with Kilcreene Granite, clear in 37.10. Claiming fourth was Julia Nelson and Cumbak Kid, four faults in 32.68. Caoimhe Murphy added to her record, taking fifth aboard The NutCracker, four faults in 35.71. Blathnaid Murphy was also back in the ribbons taking sixth with Kiltormer Ruby, four faults in 37.37.

Flynn flying

Charlie Flynn ended his weekend claiming another victory in the 138cm 1.10m section. Riding Harefield Diego, he delivered the winning clear in 33.12. Little stood between the next placing as Alanna Keeling came home clear in 33.58 aboard Tynagh Sunshine for second, while in third was Elizabeth McCracken and Drumcaughey Diamond, clear in 36.95. Slotting into fourth was Zoe Mellett and Fredaine de Blonde clear in 38.04, while returning to the line-up was Alayna Hawkins and Ballyduff Lad, four faults in 43.79 for fifth. Completing the top six was Johan Fitzpatrick Burns and Sergant Jack, who was fastest of the four-faulters in the first round.

It was a double of wins for Lauren Adams as she partnered Corradino Du Bary to a clear in 36.49 in the 148cm 1.20m. Claiming the runner-up spot was Mary Fitzgerald and Rathduff Good Guy R when they also put in a foot-perfect round in a time of 37.52. There was nothing between the next placing as Chloe Hughes Kennedy delivered a clear aboard HK Zena in 37.75.

Gary Dooley also added to his record as he took fourth with Coppenagh Gatsby, clear in 38.92, ahead of Kym Moore and Drumcashel Little Legend, four faults in 37.26. Jack Kent also had one down with HKS Salome in a slower time of 38.04 for sixth place.
