ARD Chuain proved to be a profitable outing for Jonathan Smyth as he also took the win in the HSI Studbook seven-year-old final. Riding Mulvin Cliodam, he was one of four double clears in a time of 40.46 seconds. Owned and bred by Richard JW Smyth, the mare is by Luidam out of the HHS BR Charlton-sired Charlton Clio.

Michael Roche and MB Roche were only fractions of a second behind in 40.60 for second place. Bred by Michael Beattie and owned by Michael Roche, the gelding is by Tolan R out of the Voltaire-sired Vienna.

Aaron Perrin took third place when he maintained a clean sheet in 41.68 aboard his own LKS Lanzar. Bred by Breda Perrin, the gelding is by Lancelot out of the Cougar-sired Lady Cougar.

Linda Murphy was last of the double clears with Castle Howard MRF Tiffin in 42.36 for eventual fourth. Owned by Susan Fitzpatrick and bred by Mike Comerford, the gelding is by Metropole out of the Classic Vision-sired Brockagh Classic Lady.

Angela Waras clocked a very fast time of 40.21 with My Clementine, but with one on the ground, she had to settle for fifth place. Bred by his owner David Prentice, the mare is by OBOS Quality 004 out of the Kashmir Van Schuttershof-sired Qualisca De Vansichant.

Shane Goggins suffered a similar fate with John Mullins’s French Connection, but his time of 43.21 saw him take sixth place. Bred by Niall and John Mullins, the stallion is by Diamant De Semilly out of the Indoctro-sired Bright Eyes R&D.

Six-year-old final

In the six-year-old final, 16 combinations battled it out and from those just seven delivered a clear round and only two delivered double clears. First to go in the jump-off, Gabriel Slattery answered all the questions with Captain Candy Man in 44.73 to take this win. Brendan Murphy delivered the second double clear with Shirscheen Calensky in 46.58. Jonathan Smyth proved out of luck when he had one down with CSF Rio, in a time of 44.55 for third place.

Gabriel Slattery added to his haul when he took fourth place with CW Luiboutain, after he crossed the line with four faults on 46.54. Oisin Aylward also had one on the ground with the Ennisnag-owned HK Carrera, but in a slower time of 47.82 for fifth place. Gary Dooley faulted twice with Declan Dooley’s CSF Olympic Jewel in 42.68 for sixth place.
