ANGELA Waras rode Hugh Ward’s nine-year-old gelding Diamant De La Mer to the top spot in Saturday evening’s €2,000 1.35m Gain Equine Nutrition Grand Prix at Cavan Equestrian Centre.

By Diamant De Semilly, the gelding is out of Vuelta Du Ter (Eurocommerce Berlin). The pair posted a jump-off time of 30.50 seconds to secure the win.

Cathal McMunn and Jonathan Reape’s Dutch-bred gelding Incredible was ridden to second place by Johanna Sixt, stopping the clock at 31.21. Young rider Mackenzie Healy and McFadden Equine’s Belgian-bred gelding Domar Van De Neerheide took third place in 32.10.

Belgian rider Cyril Cools rode Martina Romagnoli’s Darius Peguignon into fourth in 32.43 and also managed to secure fifth place aboard his other mount, Seahorse Z.

Junior rider Emily Moloney and Ian Smyth’s Capitol Cruis (Ard VDL Douglas x Cruising) completed the line-up in sixth.

Hadley win

Sven Hadley and Patricia Grimes’ mare Siobhra won Friday night’s 1.35m speed class. By Lux Z out of Aprhill (Clover Hill), the 10-year-old mare has been very consistent, winning several 1.30m and 1.35m classes over the past few months.

The pair were drawn early in the class and set the pace at a very quick 55.09. Junior rider Rhys Williams and Gabriel Mullins’ Zambia (Diamant De Semilly x Alba) came closest to catching them with their clear round in 57.45 for second place.

Portmore Grand Prix winners Kenneth Graham and his own Beir Bua (Lancelot x Cruising) slotted into third in 57.57. Glenn McCullough, riding his own Galwaybay Louie (Luidam x Irak E), finished in fourth, crossing the finish line in 59.01.

Patrick Hickey rode James Gilmartin’s eight-year-old Dutch-bred gelding Jackson FL into fifth place, while Temple Alice was guided into sixth by junior rider Emily Moloney.

Saturday evening’s 1.30m two-phase was won by Gerard McMullan’s French-bred gelding Val De Mazeroy. Ridden by Kevin Mackey the pair posted a double-clear round in a time of 36.83 to head proceedings.

Manuel Feldmann and Deborah Francis’ seven-year-old gelding Fantastico Riverland (Quatro de Riverland x Jus de Pomme) took the runner-up spot in 36.89. Mackey also captured third place with his other mount, the Dutch-bred Edelboy VD Renger in 39.58.

Junior Shauna Curtis rode Knockbrack Diamond Lady (Cavalier Cruise x Glidawn Diamond) into fourth in 44.44.

Fifth went to Henk Offereins’ Fortnight and Darryl Walker in 44.62, while owner/rider Micael Bibes and Pilniria Z took sixth.

‘Happyness’ for Kosko

Angela Kosko won Sunday’s SJI-sponsored 1.30m two-phase in the main arena aboard her own Happyness R. By Spartacus out of the Canturo mare Cantura, the Dutch-bred mare posted a very fast second-round time of 22.60 to secure first place.

Winners on Friday, Sven Hadley, riding Patricia Grimes’ Siobhra, took second place in 23.13. Junior Katie Nallon rode Bally Fair Deal into third place in 23.19.

Fourth went to Nicole Kershaw and Lorna Moore’s mare by Pacino, GSS Mircino, in 23.85. Junior Isabel O’Brien rode Catherine Walsh’s Javas Gucci (Luidam x Cruising) into fifth, while Cavan’s own Jamie Clarke guided his grandmother Pauline Clarke’s gelding Coumroe Special to sixth.
