ACCLAMATION has been an outstanding servant to Rathbarry Stud, and it must give the Cashman family immense pleasure to welcome his fastest-ever son Bouttemont to join his father in Fermoy this year.

Bouttemont is the first son of Acclamation (Royal Applause) to retire to stud in Ireland since Mehmas, now a successful Group 1 stallion himself, and this is perhaps something of a surprise, given that among Acclamation’s sons are a number of Group 1 sires, notably Dark Angel.

In fact, sons of Acclamation are now just short of siring 25 individual Group or Grade 1 winners.

The claim that Bouttemont is the fastest son of Acclamation to retire to stud is based on the fact that the bay won the five-furlong Prix Hampton at Chantilly in a blistering time of 56.18 seconds last year at the age of five.

Bouttemont rarely managed to get the two conditions that suited him best, five furlongs and fast ground, and when he did in the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp, he had the misfortune to run into traffic problems during the last two furlongs.

Raced for four seasons, Bouttemont won in each of them. In fact, at two he won over a mile at ParisLongchamp from two starts, the furthest distance he was successful over.

In time he showed that this was not in fact his optimum trip. Successful over six and a half furlongs at Deauville at three, he had his most prolific season at four, taking three contests.

In England he beat Edraak over six furlongs in the all-weather sprint championships, but reserved his best for the Group 3 Prix de Meautry at Deauville.

His blistering five-furlong listed win last year was backed up with a number of placed efforts at pattern and listed level.

The third dam of Bouttemont, Bailonguera (Southern Halo), was a Group 2 winner of seven races in Argentina and hails from one of their best families.

However, she moved to Europe, bred a stakes winner in France and is grandam of the Irish Group 3 Park Stakes winner Basil Martini (Starspangledbanner). Nontheless, the most successful of Bailonguera’s daughters is the stakes-placed Bargouzine (Stravinsky).

A winner at two, Bargouzine had five winning offspring, the best of these being Joyful Trinity (Zanzibari). In France he won the Group 3 Prix de la Porte Maillot, but he shone when sent to Hong Kong, and there he added a second Group 3 victory to his seven-win tally in The Celebration Cup.

Joyful Trinity also proved himself up to taking on the best and his efforts included being runner-up in The Group 1 The Stewards’ Cup and being placed in both the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile and Group 1 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup.

A daughter of the great Fastnet Rock (Danehill), Bouttemont’s dam Basilia won a couple of times in France and two of her first three runners are now winners, while the other will hopefully build on his placed efforts last year.
