LOVING Dream gave Gleneagles his first Group 1-winner when she added the Prix de Royallieu to her prior success in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes in 2021, and that year Insinuendo took both the Curragh’s Group 2 Kilboy Estate Stakes and the Group 3 Blue Wind Stakes at Naas and went on to become a Group 1-placed mare.
The following year Gleneagles doubled his Group/Grade 1 tally thanks to Highland Chief’s convincing victory in the Grade 1 Man O’ War Stakes at Belmont, and he heads his sire’s earnings list with more than €675,000 won.
An incredible tally of 11 Group 2 winners by Gleneagles number four who were knocking at the door of a Group 1 victory, including Melo Melo and Royal Scotsman who were runner-up respectively in the Prix Vermeille and Dewhurst Stakes. Last year was a stellar one for Gleneagles, with no less than nine stakes winners, but his fee has remained at €17,500.
Buoyed by the success of his stock on the racecourse, Gleneagles is now proving more popular too in the sales ring. His yearling average in 2022 and 2023 was almost €70,000, and buyers from all over the world like his stock. No wonder, as he is responsible for stakes winners in at least nine different racing jurisdictions. His daughters are also popular as broodmare prospects.
Gleneagles was a Group 1-star at two when he won the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes, but he was disqualified and placed third after passing the post in front in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere. He won his first three starts the next season, becoming a dual Group 1 classic-winning miler and Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes scorer at three.
Gleneagles has an outstanding pedigree. He is a son of the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner and phenomenal broodmare You’resothrilling (Storm Cat). His full-sisters Marvellous (Irish 1000 Guineas), Happily (Moyglare Stud Stakes) and Joan Of Arc (Prix de Diane) all won at the highest level, full-siblings Toy, Coolmore and Taj Mahal are Group 1-placed pattern winners, whereas Vatican City was runner-up in the Irish 2000 Guineas.
You’resothrilling is a full-sister to the great Giant’s Causeway (Storm Cat), champion three-year-old, multiple Group 1-star and multiple US champion sire, and their sister Pearling is the dam of multiple Group 1-winner Decorated Knight (Galileo).
