THERE was a strong sense of inevitability about how Kingman’s stallion career would turn out.

That he was a brilliant miler returning home to join the roster at Banstead Manor Stud ensured he would receive the best possible start, and he took his place with the added benefit of being a son of an emerging sire of stallions and out of a classic-winning half-sister to a major one.

He is a son of Invincible Spirit (Green Desert), a Group 1-winning sprinter with a classic horse’s pedigree, is a leading international sire whose early stallion sons featured Lawman and I Am Invincible.

Kingman’s dam Zenda (Zamindar) won the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches-French 1000 Guineas, while her half-brother Oasis Dream (Green Desert) was a Group 1 sprint star before going on to fame as a source of classic and other top-level standouts. His tally stands at 129 stakes winners, of whom 18 have won at the highest level.

They include Midday, Muhaarar, Power and Native Trail, the last-named the undefeated European juvenile champion of 2021. Power is the classic-winning sire of three Group 1 winners last season, just before Muhaarar got his first one.

Oasis Dream still holds court at Banstead Manor and his ongoing success provides a glimpse at the sort of impact his younger relation may have.

Kingman also has sons at stud, too young yet to have runners. They feature the multiple Group 1 standouts Palace Pier (new to Dalham Hall in 2022) and Persian King (at Haras d’Etreham and getting his first foals), along with Coolmore’s Group 2-scorer Calyx (he has yearlings), March Hare Stud’s Roseman (new in 2022) and the New Zealand-based King Of Comedy (new in 2021/22).

The quality of the mares Kingman covers makes it only a matter of time before he becomes the broodmare sire of top-class performers too.

Kingman’s influence is already widely spread, with the triple Grade 1-star Domestic Spending one of North America’s top turf horses, Schnell Meister a top-level winner in Japan, and Fearless King a Group 2-classic winner in Germany. Public Sector, Serve The King and Technical Analysis, the latter pair Grade 1-placed, are all Grade 2 winners in the USA, whereas Elizabeth Tower, Headman, Kinross and Summer Romance have hit that target in Japan, France, England and the UAE respectively, while Sinawann has been a pattern winner in Ireland and Australia.

They and his current three-year-olds are from Kingman’s £55,000 seasons. His juveniles represent a £75,000 fee and he is heading into his third consecutive year standing for £150,000. Kingman’s long list of six-figure yearlings in 2021 sits under his 1,100,000gns Tattersalls Book 1 colt.

His 2022 arrivals already feature the first-born son of the great Enable.
