KINGMAN, Lawman and I Am Invincible are sons of Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) who have sired several Group 1 winners apiece and, they have been joined now by others who have made their mark with at least one winner at the highest level.

The Irish National Stud stalwart Invincible Spirit is hale and hearty at 26 and the list of his sons and grandsons going on to enjoy success at stud in the future means that he will be prominent in pedigrees for generations to come. He has, and always will have, a special place in the history of the farm at Tully.

Another of his sons, Dalham Hall Stud’s Territories, can lay claim to be one of the most unheralded gems at stud, and this prolific winner-getter is available for just £10,000. His statistics as a stallion are worth every breeders’ closest attention.

At the weekend, Territories laid down a marker for the season ahead when his son Zminiature won the opening two-year-old race of the season in Britain, the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster. Last month and on his third career start, Lazzat, a three-year-old son of Territories trained by Jérôme Reynier, maintained his upward curve with an impressive victory to gain his first blacktype win, landing the Listed Prix de la Californie at Cagnes-Sur-Mer.

The gelding, who made his racecourse debut five weeks earlier, remains unbeaten having won his first two starts by a collective total of nine and a half lengths. Territories enjoyed a successful 2023, which was headed by his son Regional who struck in the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock and also included pattern winners Navajo Peak, Que Tempest, Live To Tell and Master. He had half a dozen group horses among last year’s juveniles.

Prior to these recent successes his blacktype earners in Europe featured the Group 1 Prix de l’Opera and Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes winner Rougir, Group 3 winner and Group 1 Derby runner-up Hoo Ya Mal, and many more.

Territories was a Group 1 runner-up on his final of four starts at two but excelled at three. He won the Group 3 Prix de Fontainebleau easily, chased home Gleneagles in the Group 1 2000 Guineas three weeks later, then landed the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat, also over a mile, before chasing home Esoterique in the Group 1 Prix Jacques Le Marois.

Territories’ stakes-placed dam Taranto (Machiavellian) is not only a daughter of the Group 3 scorer Magna Graecia (Warning), but she is closely related to champion sire Street Cry (Machiavellian).

The sire of Winx and Zenyatta, Street Cry was a full-brother to Helsinki, the stakes-placed dam of the leading international sire Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway). He, like Territories, is a direct descendant of the Group 1 Irish Oaks heroine Helen Street (Troy).
