1.40 Tote Always SP Or Better At Sligo Races Fillies Maiden 5f 195yds

Butterfly Island holds strong claims in this opening contest. The Dermot Weld-trained filly, who should be fit from a recent run at Gowran, likes to race close to the pace so will be suited to this track.

She has a nice draw which should allow Donagh O’Connor take up a prominent position behind the leaders before making his challenge.

Life In Colour, a consistent filly last season, made a very pleasing reappearance at Cork recently. With that outing under her belt she should be a serious threat. The faster they go early, the better her chance, as she tends to arrive late.

El Magnifique looks the most solid contender in a competitive heat. The three-year-old has shown definite promise on all four career runs to date and arguably ran his best race when a close third at the Curragh last time. He has enough experience to cope with the demands of this tight track, so should take beating.

Amanirenas caught the eye on her debut at Cork before only just failing at Dundalk last time. She looks a smart filly capable of winning her maiden. A low draw here could be a positive or negative, depending on how well she breaks.

We’re On The Way could finally get his head in front having shaped well in his last two starts. Ross O’Sullivan’s gelding was unlucky in running at the Curragh on his penultimate outing, then went close in an apprentice handicap at Navan last weekend. The grey wouldn’t need to improve a great deal to be a contender.

King’s View remains a maiden after 47 starts but wears his heart on his sleeve so deserves to get his turn. Ideally drawn for a front-runner, he should make a bold bid to see off his rivals.

Tai Sing Yeh could have done with a kinder draw but still looks the most likely winner. Johnny Levins has his horses in great order right now and the Exceed And Excel gelding made all to win at Navan last time. He had also been quickly away when leading from the off at Roscommon last season, so provided he is sharp from stalls he will take beating.

Teddy Boy, a recent winner at Bellewstown, will love a race such as this. The seven-year-old is at his best coming late from off the pace in a fast run race. Everything fell into place for him last time and a similar scenario looks likely here.

Tronador is seriously well-handicapped on the flat, although would arguably prefer a stiffer test on a more galloping track. Having said all that, he has to be the horse to beat in a race containing mainly exposed rivals.

The Gordon Elliott-trained runner showed huge improvement for the yard over hurdles last year but remains open to progression back on the level.

Fassbender finished second on his only previous run at this track last August. Although that was over hurdles, he is much better treated in this sphere and as a locally trained horse, he looks sure to have been targeted at this meeting.

Rosscarbery couldn’t have been more impressive on her stable debut at Dundalk but should prove equally as effective on grass. The Sea The Stars filly was placed in some decent maidens for John Murphy last season so has nothing to prove in that regard. A bigger concern would be stepping back up in trip, as she looked suited to dropping to a mile last time.

Miss Myers, a course-and-distance winner last season, has yet to strike form this term but ran better than the bare result last time. She should be at her peak now after two runs and might just be capable of significant improvement.

Nusret can take this finale having gone close on his return at Cork. The Joseph O’Brien-trained colt holds a Derby entry and is clearly well regarded. He showed real promise on his sole start as a juvenile and was entitled to need his reappearance. With no such excuses now, he should be too strong for this opposition.

Alaroos did very well to finish a close fourth at Gowran last time, given she had plenty to do from an outside draw. Kevin Prendergast’s filly has a kinder berth here so should be primed to go close.
