THIS is a notable week, the 350th consecutive Breeding Insights column. The first one appeared in July, 2015 and the main coverage that week was a review of the family of the then recent Group 1 Irish Derby winner Jack Hobbs.

Runner-up at Epsom in the Derby, Jack Hobbs (Halling) went on to add the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic to his tally of five wins, and retired to stud with earnings of more than £4.15 million. His first crop are three-year-olds this year.

In the intervening weeks, months and years, many of the world’s biggest race winners have been reviewed in these columns.

In the past year the column has been expanded to four pages, giving a broader coverage than ever to winners on the flat and under National Hunt rules, at home and around the globe.

Sponsored by Weatherbys, Breeding Insights welcomes news from breeders, stallion masters and more for inclusion on these pages. Feel free to email me at leopowell@theirishfield if you have news, views, comments or suggestions. All are welcome.

Here’s to the next 350 weeks.
