THE foal sales season gets under way next Saturday when the first of the pre-selected renewals is due take place at Barnadown in Co Wexford.

Running under its usual banner of the Goresbridge Supreme sale of show jumping foals, this popular fixture is staged in conjunction with the Irish Breeders’ Classic show jumping championships whose prize fund benefits from 2% of the turnover.

Truly select, the initial entrants in this year’s catalogue came under the scrutiny of Brendan Doyle and Alain Storme, who whittled them down to just 14 foals with commercial blacktype pedigrees.

Last year’s edition saw 90% of those forward change hands, and with this high class catalogue the organisers will be hoping for more of the same.
