THE final sport horse sale of the year takes place at Goresbridge next Friday, where a one-day renewal offers a catalogue in excess of 121 lots. The content is interesting and, while there are the usual number of proven and potential competition horses, there is also - in keeping with the season - a large selection of proven and fully warranted hunters.
In the final sessions of three- and four-year-olds, there are some attractive pedigrees on offer, among which are progeny of the leading numerical sires Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet, Ganesh Hero Z and Vivant Van De Heffinck.
Ponies
Lot 1 Woodbank Cookie, reg 12yo b m 13.2hh. A very experienced individual and suitable as a first pony, the fully warranted Cookie has hunted with South Dublin, Kildare, Carlow and West Wicklow hounds and has competed in hunter trials.
Lot 6 Lulu Princess, reg 9yo gr m 13.2hh. In only her first year of affiliated show jumping, Lulu has clocked up 80 SJI points. A mare with plenty of scope, she is only for sale due to lack of rider and has won and been placed at both Cavan and Millstreet.
Lot 7 Castletown Girl, 11yo gr m 148cm. An offering from a regular sale topping vendor, this straightforward mare has competed in training shows, Pony Club activities, unaffiliated events and combined training. Fully warranted, she is a smart all-round competition pony, ready to accompany another young rider through the ranks.
Hunters / All-Rounders
Lot 20 Riverdance Finale, reg 6yo ch g 17hh by Riverdance Clover out of Capaleen Seamore (Farney Clover). One of several fully warranted hunters, this traditionally bred gelding has hunted for the past two seasons and has carried the whipper-in.
Lot 22 Polly, reg 8yo bl m 163cm by Krafty Clover out of Winnie Bui (Templebready Fear Bui). Carrying the very popular Connemara cross bloodlines, this mare has competed in training shows, Pony Club and hunter trials. Easy going in all respects, she has hunted with the West Waterford Foxhounds and show jumped with a novice rider.
Lot 36 Welcome Light, reg 10yo gr g 17.1hh by Welcome Emperor out of Ballveil Lass. This experienced performer has hunted hounds for the past three seasons and has whipped-in for two. Described as a big strong horse, he is ready for the season ahead.
Lot 38 West House Spencer, reg 6yo gr g 16.1hh by Dunbeggan Grey Mist out of Poor Box (Witness Box). A traditional Irish Draught/ thoroughbred cross, Spencer was purchased from his breeder as a three-year-old. Produced by a teenage girl, he has since accumulated 10 SJI points, has competed in Pony Club activities and hunted with the Longford Harriers for two seasons. Described as a real gentleman, and perfect in traffic, he would suit any good rider.
Competition Horses
Lot 27 Unnamed, reg 6yo gr g 155cm by Dunbeggan Grey Mist out of Lissyegan Princess (Shanadoagh Prince Holly). One for the smaller rider, this versatile gelding has hunted with the North Galway Foxhounds and has been successfully shown in cob classes. He performed well at the RDS earlier this year, and is thought to have the ability to go far in the right hands.
Lot 29 Mr Numero Blue, reg 5yo ch g 15.2hh by Numero Cruise out of Knock Blue (Blue Champion). Guaranteed an easy ride, this diminutive gelding has a career total of 16 SJI points to date. Described as careful, brave and consistent, he was runner-up in the Connaught region autumn show jumping series and placed third in the €2,000 summer series final in Mullingar.
Lot 43 Unnamed, reg 7yo b m 16hh by Cobra out of Perfect Mix E (Aquilino). The winner of her first dressage competition, this low mileage mare is also a winner in the show ring. She is currently competing in training shows and is cross-country schooling.
Lot 46 Carels Lass, reg 8yo ch m 17hh by Sibon W out of Miss Carel (Canto Blanco). Successfully competing at 1.20m level, this useful all-rounder is the winner of 67 SJI points.

Four-Year-Olds
Lot 51 Woodview Firestarter, 4yo b g by Greenan Fort out of Kief Queen B (Munther). Showing bred, this high-class youngster is described as a correct young horse with fabulous, athletic movement. He has achieved notable results in his first year of competition, winning the working hunter championship at Tattersalls and the novice equivalent at the Northern Ireland Festival. He was also placed reserve hunter champion at Enniskillen Show, took fourth spot at the RDS and was runner-up in the four-year-old lightweight hunter class at Balmoral.
Lot 56 Cobra 18 Miss Red, reg 4yo b g 16.1hh by Cobra 18 out of Little Miss Red (Mermus R). The first foal out of the very useful jumping mare Little Miss Red, this trainable, talented gelding is showing all the ingredients to make a top event horse or show jumper. Well related. from a smart performance family, the dam is a sibling to the Peter Smyth-ridden Diamonds Courage (1.55m).
Lot 70 KDSL Lux Hero, reg 4yo b g 16.2hh by Ganesh Hero Z out of Luxroe (Lux Z). An offspring of Eddie Molony’s good mare Luxroe (1.40m), this gelding has evented at EI 90cm level, and delivered four double clear rounds in his RDS young event horse qualifiers. Bred to event or show jump, his dam is a sibling to five international horses, among which is the sire Castlelawn Captain Junior (1.45m) and Bahrain Silver (1.50m).
Three-Year-Olds
Lot 86 Valiente K, reg 3yo br g 16.2hh by Valent out of Lovely Ruby (Sheyenne Clover). By the coveted five-star event sire Valent, and with the dam’s line going back to the thoroughbred Phardante, this smartly-bred gelding should progress in either the eventing or show jumping ranks.
Lot 91 Ardragh OS Pursuits, reg 3yo ch g 16.3hh by Ardagh Me O Moy out of Ardragh Duchess (Guidam). By a son of the highly regarded Aganix du Seigneur, this well-related youngster is a full-brother to the up and coming Ardragh Patriot (Daisy Duggan) and a half-brother to Ardragh DCR Drifter. He hails from a stout maternal line, being out of a sister to Ardragh Cool Touch (1.40m), Ardragh Mountain Dew (1.40m) and Ardragh Cordubh, who successfully competed in the Hagen children’s nations cup. The dam is also a sibling to several nationally successful jumpers including Ardragh Dancing Queen and Ardragh Dancing Lady.
Lot 92 Portphilip Danny Boy, reg 3yo b g 16.1hh by Big Dan Rouet out of Portphilip Cruise (Cruising). A very well-related half-brother to the Italian-based event horse Portphilip Jones (CCI4*L) ridden by Susanna Bordone, as well as to Portphilip Dioscruise (1. 35m), Portphilip CE (1. 30m) and Portphilip Gypsy (CCI YH 1*). The second dam is Lisanny Lady, who was the dam of Cruising Lady (1.40m) and Portphilip Cruzcrew (1.40m).
Lot 103 Martello Rosario, reg 3yo b g 165cm by Rosier out of Carrigaline Rose (Ramiro B). Combining the bloodlines of the Drumhowan Stud’s highly rated thoroughbred sire Rosier with a dam by the top event sire Ramiro B, this gelding looks to have the ingredients to make a top event horse.
Lot 104 Shannondale Myles, reg 3yo b g 16.2hh by Lucarelli out of Shannondale Melodie (Cavalier Royale). Another attractively bred gelding with thoroughbred/ sport horse cross breeding, Shannondale Myles is out of a full sibling to the international event horses Shannondale Icarus (CCI4*), Shannondale Mel (CCI3*) and Shannondale Levi (CCI*), Dam is also a half -sister to the top jumper Lux Harmonie (1.55m) and several other graded national show jumpers.
Lot 107 Unnamed, reg 3yo b g 16.1hh by Watar out of Two T’Three Weeks (Silver Patriarch). A full thoroughbred, this gelding a is an own brother to Thistletown Delboy, who was placed second in the four-year-old young event horse championship at the RDS earlier this year.
Lot 110 Gorsefield Contender, reg 3yo b f 16.1hh by Colandro out of Aurora Sky (Golden Lariat). By the very popular Colandro, this filly is from the direct maternal line of Floating (second dam), who represented Ireland at both the junior and young rider European eventing championships.
Lot 115 Shannondale Malika, reg 3yo gr f 16.2hh by Glynwood Cornet out of Shannondale Mena (Guidam). By a son of Cornet Obolensky, this filly is a half-sister to Shannondale Gambit (CCI4*) ridden by Kyle Morton and the nationally ridden jumper Shannondale Eltro (1.20m).
Lot 116 Crannaghmore Candy Distance, reg 3yo ch f 16.1hh by Sligo Candy Boy out of Currantarmuid Black Tie (Silvano). Home-bred, out of a successful RDS reserve champion show mare, this filly qualified for the RDS loose jumping finals on her first attempt. Straight and correct and very trainable, she is showing super ability and is set to enjoy a bright future.
