GEARÓID Bolger, who was named as a non-travelling reserve for the European pony eventing championships which are taking place this weekend in Britain, partnered his squad pony, Whitethorn Honeys Rock, to victory in the EI110 (P) at Crecora last Sunday.
Bolger, who scored by a five-point margin with his mother Margaret’s eight-year-old Connemara gelding by Blackwoodland Rock, was presented with the Tiggy Hancock memorial cup by Donal O’Beirne.
Bolger had an error in his test but had little trouble in holding off Oscar O’Connor who had a fence down show jumping with Chanel Van De Kleine Vlie (39.5).O’Connor, who is due to compete at the European pony dressage championships next month, was quickly compensated for that defeat as, with the only sub-30 flatwork score, he made all to see off eight rivals in the EI100 (P) with his mother Susie’s 14-year-old mare Belaero.
This was a fourth win of the season for the Co Wexford combination.
Kelly’s good run continues
Also from Co Wexford, Matthew Kelly’s good season continued in the two-runner EI110 (J) as he completed on his own with his father Edward’s 16-year-old skewbald gelding Ah To Be Sure who left one of the coloured poles on the floor.
Kelly racks up third win
Co Wicklow’s Jasper Kelly recorded his third EI100 (J) win of the season on Tanya Lock’s nine-year-old mare Rathcline Moonlight Girl, with whom he has also qualified for the older Connemara performance hunter championship at next month’s Dublin Horse Show.
Meanwhile, Co Wexford’s Georgina Pettit posted an all-the-way win in the EI90 (P) on another consistent Connemara, her mother Marguerite’s Ballyerk Lover.
