THE Western Region of Eventing Ireland held its annual general meeting last Friday night in the Raheen Woods Hotel.

Having thanked his fellow committee members for all their hard work during the year, chairman Ralph Conroy gave a lengthy report covering the many fixtures staged by the region in that period, including the end-of-season awards night, which dovetailed with the East Galway hunt ball.

Near the end of his report, Conroy commented: “Congratulations to all our riders, who were out competing in national and international events during the year – we may have small numbers in the West, but it was great to see all our riders doing so well on the national stage.

“Special congratulations to Godfrey Gibbons for winning a team silver medal at the European Championships in Italy, where he finished individual seventh. We do want to continue to grow our numbers in the West, but we are very proud of all the riders we have competing.”

Bar one change, the regional officers remain the same for 2024 – chairman, Ralph Conroy; vice chairman, Liam Lynskey; secretary, Marie Dunne; treasurer, Ruth Waldron (new): PRO, Hannah Gordon; and safety officer, Linda Kenny.
