IT was great to see the spread of schools being represented at the latest TRI Equestrian Interschools held in Tipperary Equestrian Centre and hosted by Ursuline College, Thurles. Indeed, the host school swept the board, taking victory in both team events. Ursuline’s open team saw off a determined challenge from fellow Thurles school, Presentation, to ride away with the red ribbons.

Ursuline was represented by Little Drumin Phoenix and Evie Kennedy, Ard Fhionain Springtime and Aibhe Hally, Hollywood Chase Me Charlie ridden by Kate Murphy and Bruckless Elman ridden by India Cox, while the three-person team of Ellie Murphy, ridden by Emma O’Meara, Tara Mouquet and Stardust and Back in Action, ridden by Hannah Molloy, represented Presentation. The Cashel Community School team of Manderley and Sam Doyle, Gailes Dream Girl and Conor Hayes, Ballynoe Bay Boy ridden by Holly Finn and Lucky Girl and Ailbe Tobin placed third, with the remaining league points going to CBS Thurles, Borrisokane and Loreto Kilkenny.

In the EII novice team class, host school Ursuline’s novice team represented by Gormon Oak and Emily Gleeson, Ballinkingsland Zaras and Aimee Harold Barry, Rafina Degree and Charlotte Roe and Highbury Lad ridden by Siun Coleman placed first, ahead of Coláiste Mhuire Johnstown’s Midnight Tango Two and Taylor Aylward, Thornback Smoothie and Maeve Holohan and Conna Nora Batty ridden by Mia Perry, in second place. Presentation Secondary Thurles’ Monaghanstown Rose and Ava Caroll, Sunny Sky and Lucy Healy, and Monaghan Sonny ridden by Sophie Thompson was third, ahead of Kilkenny College, Borris VS and St Anne’s Tipperary.

The Novice winning team at the TRI Interschools hosted by Ursuline College at Tipperary EC consisted of Gormon Oak (Emily Gleeson), Ballinkingsland Zaras (Aimee Harold Barry), Rafina Degree (Charlotte Roe) and Highbury Lad (Siun Coleman)

Killags Foxy Lady and Rosemary Dundon from Borris, Ellen Mooney from Newbridge College on Christopher Columbus and Darragh O’Brien and Ironhill Shooting Star were fourth, fifth and sixth.

Since Brook Kenny on Ravensdale Rossy and Rosemary Dundon on Killags Foxy Lady are already qualified, the remaining qualifying places were awarded to Mountain Girl and Bobby Weld from Newbridge College and Laura Kennedy on her second pony, Derrylough Harvey from St Anne’s Tipperary.

The fun novice individual class, open to secondary and primary, saw Kate Brown on the aptly named Clear Over from Duall NS win out Dual, ahead of Georgia Cleary riding Kilminchy Feisty for Scoil Ruáin Killenaule. Lucy Kinsella riding Oh Me Oh My from Scoil Mhólainge won the Primary Individual class with Clear Over, with Kate Brown in second and Vicky Kerwick and Shadow Quest in third.
