COMPETITORS, organisers and volunteers all did their best to deal with the adverse weather conditions which prevailed at the Co Limerick Branch’s Connolly’s Red Mills one-day event qualifier at Crecora on Sunday but, when the lightning became dangerous, it was decided to draw stumps before the Junior Novice and Under 12s’ cross-country phases.

The results in these classes were then given as per combined training competitions and the winners were the South Union’s Beth Coveney on the seven-year-old bay gelding Coppenagh Russel in the non-qualifying Junior Novice class; The Kingdom’s Kate Murnane riding the 11-year-old skewbald gelding Coolrahnee Crazy in Section A of the Under 12s; and The Kingdom’s Lexi Keane with the 21-year-old grey gelding Woodfield Prancer in Section B.

It was great to see an Open class being contested at Ballycahane Equestrian where the honours went to Scarteen’s Jessie O’Sullivan with the 16-year-old mare, My Mountain Grey. Hosts for the day, the Co Limericks were rewarded for their efforts when Tim Collins won the Intermediate with Yvonne O’Connor’s Clonshire Waveney, an eight-year-old Waveney bay. Alice Roch-Perks topped the final leaderboard in the Intro Intermediate with the 17-year-old Namelus R gelding, Bornio.

At Junior level, there were wins for Scarteen’s Ciara Lane and Lough Derg Cooper in Section A and for Waterford’s Lillymai Walsh riding Bawnabraher Buachaill in Section B.
