THE Wicklow Area Summer Show took place in Spruce Lodge last Saturday. It was a day tinged with sadness as the void left by Peter Molloy’s passing was filled by the regaling of stories of Peter telling us off for parking the horse boxes too far from the next car or us rushing across arenas to tell him that he had left the loudspeaker on while telling stories of a recent GAA match or his trip to Cheltenham, writes Yvonne Byrne.

The day dawned windy but soon turned to brilliant sunshine allowing the riders to enjoy the challenge of the working hunter track built by Johnny Kyle with lots of natural obstacles and a water complex. Ned Kelly’s careful riding of each stride awarded him a win in both the 133cms and the 143cms Working Hunter on his ponies Tinnecarrig Milo and Rowdown Archer with Alisha Vard taking the win in the 153cms class on Galtee Donald and the Open WH Championship, with Ned taking reserve on Rowdown Archer.
