UNREGISTERED horses and ponies dominated the entry at a low-key show hosted by the Midland and Western Region of Dressage Ireland at Iceford Stables last Sunday.

Seventeen combinations appeared before Jane Whitaker (List 2) in the Preliminary DI6 where Julie Spring and Lilly Berry McLaughlin both scored 70.38% on the registered pair Mr Vincent and General Sinatra. However, the overall leaderboard was headed by the Rachel Ryder-ridden unregistered Aldo Pye (71.54).

Whitaker also judged the day’s Novice and Elementary classes. Four combinations appeared in the Novice DI21 where the winner on 68.79% was the aforementioned Julie Spring on the thoroughbred Mr Vincent, an unraced seven-year-old Watar half-brother to two winners on the track.

Lilly Berry McLaughlin and her Connemara gelding General Sinatra, 12-year-old General Humbert grey, claimed the honours on 66.03% in the three-runner Novice DI27A. Ailise Foy and the Irish Sport Horse gelding Annaharvey Delheim (61.30), a 12-year-old grey by Dunlewey Seamus, were the sole starters in the Elementary DI51 and then finished second (63.04) to Amy McDonagh riding the 17-year-old black mare Forest View Anne (66.07) in the DI55.

Sixteen combinations started before Helen Nolan (List 5) in the Preliminary DI5A where she awarded her highest score, 71.43%, to Maja Dym riding the unregistered Dusky Moon. Nolan also judged the DI Introductory Test A, won by Alyssa Ryder on Bubbles (67.22).

All 10 horses/ponies who started in the Nolan-judged Trailblazers’ Under 16 class (Preliminary DI4) were unregistered with the winner being the Sophia Cardillo-ridden 11-year-old roan mare Del May (69.20%).
