BROADMEADOW Equestrian Centre’s Brian Duff and his team hosted the latest leg of the TRI Equestrian league last Sunday. Action commenced with the EII Primary Individual class, which was won in fine style by Shannon Griffith riding Curramore Sparrow for Screen NS.
There was a great family day for the Connolly family, with Peter and Patrick Connolly, pupils of Castle Park NS, Dalkey and their beautifully turned-out ponies in the Primary Individual class. Peter took second place on Rachel’s Rory; third place on DHS Black Domino and fourth on Highmead Song and Dance. His brother Patrick also had a lovely clear round, finishing in seventh place, which will gain him two league points. Their support team had both ponies and riders very well turned out. Also gaining league points are Marlena Kelly, Abby Cassidy and Luke Murray.
Following a course change, seven teams lined up for the Hopoti Novice team class. St Gerard’s junior school were awarded the red rosettes, ahead of Loreto Secondary school, Wexford. Harvey Ventura, Lady Triton, Cloonan Hannah and Chesterfield Curtis, ridden by Lilly Maloney, Saoirse Di Biasi, Charlotte Dodd and Ali Condren represented St Gerard’s, while Freya Barry on Churchland’s Liberty, Caitlin Griffith on Interstella, Aoife Griffith on Starlight Express and Annie Scallon and Louis Arthur made up the Loreto team.
Scoil Mhuire Trim placed third, represented by Bridget Corcoran riding Sizzling Sisco, Luane’s Mist and Grace Rennick and Catherine Prendergast and Glandoran Man. Another team from Scoil Mhuire were fourth, ahead of Newbridge College in fifth.

St Michael’s College pupil Patrick Fenton riding Diego claimed the 16-strong Hopoti Novice Individuals, ahead of Peter Connolly and Rachel’s Rory from Castle Park in second and Scoil Mhuire Trim’s Aine Corcoran on Moonlight Maddy in third. The last novice class of the day was the Equieire novice 90cm qualifier. Lilly Sullivan representing Scoil Dara Kilcock produced a lovely clear round to win the class and gain a qualifying spot. Also clear, but slightly slower and gaining a qualifying spot was Tasmin Haughey and The Curious Man for Scoil Mhuire. Remaining qualifying spots went to Freya Barry, Amber Smith, Ali Condren and Mia Bracken. Seventeen riders competed.
TRI Equestrian open teams and Individuals completed the day’s classes. In the open team event, the three-person Borris College team produced three lovely clear rounds to claim victory from current league leaders St Mary’s New Ross. Borris was represented by Darragh O’Brien on Ironhills Shooting Star, Bradley and Cathy Doyle and Killag’s Foxy Lady and Rosemary Dundon. Ava Donovan riding Redhouse April Pearl, Milchem Havana and Eva Kent, Queen’s Coronet ridden by Mia Kent and Autumn and Martha Power rode for St Mary’s.
Loreto Wexford, represented by Wex Gal ridden by Amy Griffith, Bells Nugget and Isabel Walsh and Hannah Rose Roche riding a little bit of Twinkle, placed third. St Michael’s College riders Hugh Draper, Toby O’Leary and Alex O’Connor on Killian’s Canal, Annaghmore and Highlight were fourth.

Hugh Draper on Killian’s Canal was fastest to claim the 10 points on offer in the TRI Equestrian Open Individual league. St Mary’s Mia Kent riding Queen’s Coronet was runner-up, with Isobel Walsh on Bells Nugget for Loreto Wexford in third. Remaining league points went to Rosemary Dundon, Cathy Doyle and Molly Britton.
The last TRI Equestrian Interschools competition before the Christmas break takes place this Sunday in Boswell Equestrian Centre.
