CO Wicklow’s Jane Bradbury is no stranger to success at the Tattersalls July Show but completed a unique double when adding victory in Wednesday afternoon’s Lynskey Engineering ridden hunter championship on Bloomfield Watergate to that in the morning’s youngstock decider.

Owned since winning the all-Ireland three-year-old championship at Bannon and Rathangan last season by US-based, Ireland-born veterinary surgeon Brendan Furlong, the Watermill Swatch gelding qualified for the championship when winning the four-year-old lightweight class on Tuesday. The other class winners on day one were Kerry Findlay’s 13-year-old chesnut gelding Shanbally Ronaldo (small), Tom McNamara’s Cappa Dianthus gelding Shanbally Fieldmaster (four-year-old heavyweight) and Jason Kelly’s Lansdown bay, Dennistown Lady Grace (mares).

The winners sent forward from Wednesday’s four-year-olds and upwards classes by Michelle Burgess (ride) and the Hon Hopper Cavendish (conformation) were Kate McMahon’s six-year-old Financial Reward gelding Woodfield Bonus (lightweight), Julie Graham’s year younger Lislap Benedict bay Drumlanes Belle Of The Ball (middleweight) and Grace Maxwell Murphy’s Gortfree Hero four-year-old Gleann Rua Marksman (heavyweight).

The championship was decided in the Main show jumping arena by the same two judges who had Bradbury called forward into the championship slot while Woodfield Bonus stood reserve under Rosemary Connors who bred the bay out of her top mare Woodfield Valier and is riding some horses for the McMahons while Amory continues to recover from a broken back.

Having been presented with the Jimmy Ryan Trophy yet again, Bradbury said that Bloomfield Watergate would be heading to Dublin for the four-year-old lightweight geldings’ class. Having been broken early in the year in England, he remained there to do a handful of shows before coming back here where he was champion at Adamstown before coming to Tatts.

Last year, Bloomfield Watergate was the supreme champion young horse at Dublin so many will be hoping he can follow up to that level under saddle.
