MACS Silver, the sole successful Class 1 stallion at the Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) autumn inspections, was bred by Moate man Pairic McNeill. Sold as a foal to Seamus Sloyan, who presented him at the recent inspections in Onley Grounds, near Coventry, the three-year-old was broken and produced by Padraic Corcoran. By Fast Silver and out of the Donovan mare, Kilmantogue Appeal, Macs Silver is now owned by Shona Moss.

During his inspection, John Newborough stated that Macs was a lovely young stallion, very true to type with a pretty head and excellent limb and gaskin. He noted that he has great bone, lovely movement and a very good jump. He further stated that Macs is a good small type of Draught, which is very much needed in the herd book.

Macs Silver will be standing at Silveroak Stud for the 2024 season.

“I am absolutely delighted to have Macs Silver join us here at Silveroak Stud in West Wales,” said Shona Moss.

“He is a beautifully put together and mannerly young stallion with a lovely head, quality paces and a super jump. I had been hoping to find a real quality Fast Silver son, and I particularly like Macs’ lineage as his dam side is Donovan, and also dates back to Blue Peter and Rathangan Queen, the half-sister to Uibh Fhaili.

“The fact that he is only 15.2hh made him even more perfect, as I feel the Draught has become quite tall, and I want to focus on breeding smaller, easier kept, quality Irish Draughts.

“We lack in smaller ID stallions here in the UK and very few people in our area have big horses, so I hope he will prove to be a popular sire. He will be produced under saddle and I am very much looking forward to an exciting future with this lovely young stallion.”

Three more stallions were successful at the springtime cross-channel inspections: Bowland Royal Silver (Silver Jasper), Castlerise A Twist of Ginger (Silver Wind Twister) and another Irish-bred: The Scarlet Hero (Crannagh Hero), bred by the late Eddie Murphy.

Congratulations to all of their connections.
