Coyle wins $75,000 Grand Prix

DERRY’s Jordan Coyle won the $75,000 Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix at the I Love New York Horse Show, the second week of the 2023 Lake Placid Horse Shows (LPHS). Coyle was eighth to go in the nine-horse jump-off with Falkirk Farm LLC’s 12-year-old gelding For Gold, finishing in 34.56 seconds to win ahead of U.S. Olympian McLain Ward and First Lady in 35.27. “He’s a new horse to me,” Coyle said afterwards. “He’s a phenomenal horse, and he’s quite easy to ride so he makes my job easy. He felt fantastic today. Any day you can beat McLain Ward, you’re doing pretty well!”

Allen third in Ommen Grand Prix

WEXFORD’s Harry Allen finished third in the three-star Grand Prix at Ommen in The Netherlands last Sunday. Riding his top horse Calculatus, a nine-year-old owned by Qin Yu Pang, he was one of four double clears in 43.63 seconds to earn €9,000. There were two more Irish in the top eight – Conor Drain finished seventh with Imagine, ahead of Matt Garrigan in eighth place with Quantum Robin V. Victory went the way of Britain’s Jodie Hall McAteer and Kimosa van het Kritrahof (0/0 42.27).

Monaghan fourth in France

DUBLIN show jumper Sean Monaghan placed fourth in the two-star Grand Prix at Royan in France last weekend. He guided the 10-year-old stallion A.N. Cassius to a clear round in the nine-horse jump-off, breaking the beam in 46 seconds to finish fourth. Victory went to the home rider Pauline Guignery with Claudio Fizz (0/0 39.33).
