IRELAND’S Harry Allen rode Qin Yu Pang’s nine-year-old gelding Calculatus (Cachassini x Contello), bred by Rudolf Spiekermann, into third place in the CSI4* 1.55m Grand Prix du Department de la Manche in Saint Lo, France, on Sunday.

Out of 43 starters, there were just seven clear rounds in round one; only four of these managed to jump clear again in the second round. The win, with the fastest double clear, went to France’s Julien Anquetin riding Blood Diamond du Pont, a 12-year-old bay gelding (Diamant de Semilly x Arpege Pierreville) with a second round time of 38.51 seconds.

France also took the runner-up spot, with Francois Xavier Boudant riding 12-year-old chesnut gelding Brazyl du Mezel clear in a time of 40.80 seconds. Allen came in less than a second behind in 41.51 seconds. The final double clear of the competition went to Israel’s Robin Muhr riding 11-year-old grey gelding Mylo van Klapscheut in 42.47 seconds.

On Friday, Allen had ridden Calculatus into seventh place in the CSI4* 1.50m Prix Ville de Saint Lo et Saint Lo Agglo class, when the pair were among eight double clear rounds of the 56 starters.

Meanwhile, Emily Turkington finished 11th in the CSI4* 1.40m Prix Maisons Axcess class with Billy Bud, a 10-year-old bay gelding owned by Ballywalter Stables.

Saturday saw Abby Morton taking ninth place in the CSI1* 1.25m Grand Prix Groupama class with eight-year-old bay mare Blueoak Legaland. Out of 32 starters, they were among the 10 double clears registered.
