Pender runner-up in Vilamoura

KILDARE’s Mikey Pender and HHS Catwalk (ISH) finished second in last Saturday’s three-star 1.45m ranking class in Vilamoura, Portugal. He guided the Thomas Hughes-bred HHS Catwalk (Cit Cat x Clover Echo) to a clear in 59.23 seconds, picking up €5,240.

Victory went to Britain’s James Smith with Arkuga (0/58.07). Smith also won Sunday’s 1.45m, in which Pender finished fourth with Marion Hughes’ home-bred HHS Los Angeles (Le Roi 10 x Cavalier Royale).

Lorcan Gallagher third in Thermal

NEWRY show jumper Lorcan Gallagher finished third in the 1.50m Grand Prix in Thermal, California, last Saturday riding the Dacantos Group’s 15-year-old stallion Hunters Conlypso II.

The pair were one of three double clears in 38.03 seconds to earn €6,500. USA’s Kyle King claimed victory with Etalon (0/0 35.91).
