KMS BALLYGRIFFIN Max was named four-year-old champion in the Rising Stars Final sponsored by Gerry Mullins and Jimmy Doyle at the Mullingar Summer Chamkpionship last Saturday.

Judges Micheal Kelly and David Harrisson awarded the youngster, ridden by Olive Clarke, a score of 83 points to top the 23-strong field.

By Tyson, KMS Ballygriffin Max is out of Max Naughty but Nice, by Chacoa. Bred by Mary McInerney, she is owned by Olive Broderick.

Alan Wheeler’s owned and bred Cashless, by Ard VDL Douglas, out of Anabee Arkansas, by VDL Arkansas was ridden into second place and a score of 80.5 by Paul Lynch.

Kate Derwin guided Robbie O’Connor’s ROC Olympic Adventure into third with 82.53 points while Kelda Jauvert and her own mare Cookstown Sparrow (Coupe du Coeur x Ashfield Bobby Sparrow) bred by Donal Callery took fourth on a score of 72.5.

Andrew Thompson’s Fee Nix (Echonix x Ogano Sitte) was ridden into fifth by Ellen Thompson for breeder John Fee with 69.53 points.

Sixth place went to Paul Lynch and the Gary Cusack-bred and owned Glenoran Bagheera (Vivant Van De Heffinck x Vancover).

Silvermines Cornet Cruise, ridden by Deane Rogan, dominated in the Gerry Mullins and Jimmy Doyle sponsored five-year-old Rising Stars Final.

Owned by Declan McGarry, he is by Cornet Obolensky out of Sligo Crise Way, by Cruising and was bred by Mr Clohessy and Mr Stapelton.

Held in a two-phase format, some 10 of the 32 entries managed to keep a clean sheet over both phases, Rogan’s was fastest in 37.90 for the win.

Nicola FitzGibbon rode her own gelding Donatello (Carisma x Beach Lady), bred by George McCullough, into the runner-up spot in 38.79. Andrew Lyons’ gelding Connaberry Matisse and John Murray took third, while Joanne Blair and Mark Harley’s mare by Dominator 2000 Z, Jibber Jabber PH bred by Paul Hughes, finished fourth.

Olive Clarke rode her own FSS Shamrock (Emerald van’t Ruytershof x Kannan) into fifth and Robert Harrison partnered his gelding Lagans Cornet Lad (Cornet Obolensky x Pacino), bred by Peter Rice, into sixth.

The six and seven-year-olds, once again supported by Gerry Mullins and Jimmy Doyle, saw in-form junior rider James Derwin once again come to the fore, capturing the win aboard Ballywalters Stables’ Dutch-bred six-year-old Amos L Z (A Golden Boy Hero Z x Canturano Z).

The pair will be hoping to maintain this good form heading into Dublin, they qualified for the 1.30m young riders’ class at the RDS in Cavan last July.

Heather Blair and Emma O’Dwyer’s Dougie Drea (Ard VDL Douglas x Bolivar), bred by Victoria Foster and ridden by O’Dwyer, were runners-up.

Young rider Hallie Crowe and her own Riverstown Flamenco Cruise (Je T’Aime Flamenco x Cruising), bred by Vincent Burton, took third place.

Karen Geoghegan’s Miss Cavalier Candy (Sligo Candy Boy x Castletallagh Royale), bred by Tom Flemimng and ridden by Mark Duffy, were fourth.

Fifth went to Caitlin Glennon riding her own French-bred mare Hermine Du Parc, while sixth was Joanne Blair and Richard Bourns owned and bred Attagirl (Vigo D’Arsouilles x Numero Uno).

Langara Ventures’ mare Emily May and Nicola FitzGibbon won the 1.20m Mullingar Horse Sales speed class last Sunday morning.

Bred by Thomas Dowd, she is by Sligo Candy Boy, out of Lough Eske by Cavalier Royale. The duo stopped the clock at 52.43 to prove best of the 35-strong start list.

Second place went to AHG Whiterock Duggie (Ard VDL Douglas x Raheenwood Ginger), bred by Ann Gannon Clancy and ridden by Cora Sharkey for owner Joe Sharkey, in 54.66.

The Hurricane (Tremoelgoch Clinton x Milly Gould), owned by Mary Boland and ridden by Abigail Boland, was third in 55.10.

Fourth went to SBH Diamond in the Rough (Diamond Roller x Metropole), bred by John Kearney, he is owned and ridden by Barry Griffin.

John Queally’s Nour Alain (Numero Uno x Heartbreaker), bred by Patrick Keane, was ridden into fifth place by Orla Queally, while Junior Kacey Lou Carberry rode her father Paul’s Brandonview First Edition (Douglas Cavalier x Balda Beau) into sixth.

The Hurricane lived up to his name when he stormed through to take the win in the Forever Equestrian 1.20m two-phase for rider Abigail and owner Mary Boland.

The duo broke the finish beams in a time of 31.01 to take the victory almost a second and a half faster than closest rival and runner-up Junior Aine Shorthall riding her mother Pamela’s Killerisk Can Ya by Can Ya Makan out of R Umonia 14 (Mermus R) bred by Maura Counihan in 32.29.

Marek Starzak’s Greenfort Princess (Ricardo Z x Kigali), bred by Patrick O’Toole and ridden by Darryl Walker, were third in 32.48, while Saoirse Kenny and Kizimkazi (Quidam Junior I x Lux Z), bred by Patrick A Walsh, took fourth.

Junior Lauren Murphy riding Cyril Trenier’s Dutch-bred Fiske slotted into fifth, while Shane Goggins and Keville Equestrian Ltd’s six-year-old Invictus (Tyson x Diamant De Semilly), bred by Carroll Brothers Ireland, finished in sixth.
