SATURDAY’S Mini Grand Prix at the HHS Charity Show at Marion Hughes’ home in Co Kilkenny attracted a large field, with 86 lining out for the 1.35m two-phase class.
Some 34 managed to keep a clean sheet over both phases. 24 riders had just one fence down, while the remaining 28 clocked up more than four faults apiece.
Resident rider Mikey Pender headed proceedings, when he guided Marion Hughes’ HHS Fortune (Catoki x Ard VDL Douglas) to the win, in a second-round time of 27.10.
Runner-up was young rider Tom Wachman aboard Coolmore ShowJumping’s mare I’m Here (Carambole x Numero Uno) in 27.69.
Comdt. Geoff Curran and Derrycush took third place in 29 seconds, while another from the army equitation school Lt Michaeli Byrne and Glendarragh (Future Trend x Aldatus Z) finished in fourth place in 31.11.
Thomas Foley’s seven-year-old Roger De Mariposa (Vegabond De La Pomme x Air Jordan Z) took fifth with Brendan Murphy in the tack, while young rider Max Foley rode Bravo Hughes Ltd’s home-bred HHS Calgary (Luidam x Don Juan De La Bouverie) into sixth.
