CAVAN’S own Victoria Clarke dominated in Sunday’s 1.35m class, taking the top spot aboard her own gelding Landlord (Lord Pezi x Corlando).

Some 14 of the 34 starters managed to produce a first-round clear. Clarke proved fastest of these with a jump-off time of 38.68.

Sven Hadley came closest to catching her aboard Phenomene Bleu VDM. They recorded a time of 40.85 for second place.

Grace McHugh riding GMH Sporthorses’ Dutch-bred Berlios Van De Kapel (Quasimodo Z x Gladstone) was third in 41.93.

The seven-year-old Next Question (VDL Orestus x Damiro), owned by Greg Broderick and bred by Tracey and Margaret Gallagher, was ridden into fourth by Niamh McEvoy.

The eight-year-old Mr Basil (Plot Blue x Hermes De Reve), bred by Markus Buser and ridden by Richard McIvor, took fifth. McIvor also piloted the Dutch-bred Jamboree VDL (Harley VDL x Corland) into sixth place for owner Gary McIvor.

1.30m

Junior Aine Shorthall and Killerisk Can Ya (Can Ya Makan x Mermus R) won a very competitive 1.30m class last Saturday afternoon in Cavan.

A total of 71 combinations lined out for the competition, of these some 37 managed to deliver a double clear round.

Shorthall was fastest of these, guiding her mother Pamela’s 12-year-old gelding through the finish beams in a time of 33.88 for the victory.

Pamela Posnett’s Belgian-bred gelding Maxim Van Overis Z (Machno Carwyn x Lord Z), with Suzanne Posnett in the saddle, took second place, almost a second and a half slower in 35.47. Dessie Irwin’s Trebra Premier Douglas (Hold Up Premier x Ard VDL Douglas) was ridden into third place by Darren Irwin, breaking the beams in 39.26.

CES Wicked Contender (Contendro II x Cavalier), owned and ridden by Robert Harrison, finished in fourth place in 39.28.

Ciara Coyle’s home-bred gelding C and G Pie (Pacino x Indoctro) was partnered into fifth place by Charlotte Harding.

Patrick Hickey completed the line up in sixth aboard Ronnoco Jump’s seven-year-old gelding Replay V/D Rollenbeek (Diamant De Semilly x Toulon).

Consistent

Junior Kian Dore and his National Grand Prix winning mount Hermies VH Bergerhof Z (Hermes De Lux x Clearway) won the 1.30m class last Sunday.

Owned by his father Carl, the Belgian-bred mare has been a great servant to Dore, with consistent top-six placings since arriving in Ireland at the end of March.

Their time of 33.62 earned them the top-spot, ahead of runner-up Patrick Hickey and his eight-year-old Belgian-bred Down Under Z (Don’t Touch Tiji Hero x Cassini I) in 34.12.

Jimmy Dermody riding his own Ballyquirke Paddy (Ars Vivendi x Clover Brigade) slotted into third in 37.28.

Richard Kirby’s seven-year-old BP Rocket Man (Stakkato Gold x Quidam Junior), bred by GBBS Ltd and ridden by Harry Wood, finished fourth in 38.00.

Catherine Pasmore and her own French-bred mare Eden de Maugre (Cardento x Ogano Sitte) were fifth, while Lt Michaeli Byrne and the Minister For Defence’s seven-year-old Dunboyne (Elvis Ter Putte x Sibon W), bred by Stacey Babes, finished in sixth place.

Opener

Thursday’s feature, the opening 1.35m class of the four-day summer show in Cavan last weekend, was won by Corinne Hyne riding Derry O’Donovan’s Lux Like Clover One (Lux Z x Clover Hill). The duo produced a second-round clear in a time of 33.38 to capture the win.

Tom McGurk’s home-bred Kannan Diamante (Kannan x VDL Arkansas) was ridden into the runner-up spot by John Floody in 34.91.

Bernard Reynolds’ seven-year-old gelding Kathleen’s Candy Clover (Sligo Candy Boy x Green Road Tulip), bred by Kathleen O’Reilly and ridden by John Mulligan, took third place.

Mark Cleary rode Jack Andrew Hutchinson’s eight-year-old Ballyshan Chicago (KMS Chicago x Lux Z), bred by Gary Doherty into fourth, while fifth went to Jenny Dunlop and her own gelding Gidion B.

Catherine Thornton completed the top-six aboard David Campbell’s Derryinver Truffle (Tornesch x Cruising).

Speed

Deloughtane Matoaka, owned by Gillian Kerr and ridden by Jonathan Smyth, secured Friday’s 1.35m one-round speed class.

By Tolan R out of Ardsallagh Clover, by Clover Hill, she was bred by John Walsh and Susan Malee. The duo stopped the clock at 69.70 for first place.

Sandra Duffy/ Ireland Horse Sport and Leisure Ltd’s eight-year-old CSF Andrew, ridden by Jake Hunter, were runners-up in 71.01.

Jim Donohoe and Niamh O’Donnabhain’s Culdearg Clover Lad (Gelvin Clover x Touchdown) took third in 72.35, while Aimee Barry and her father Joe’s Garryndruig Limoncello (Amaretto D’arco x Cruising) claimed fourth in 73.26.

GMH Sporthorses’ Dutch-bred Berlios Van De KapelQ (Quasimodo Z x Gladstone) was guided into fifth by Grace McHugh.

Vincent Byrne and Madelaine Gervais’ Belgian-bred mare Pandora (De Flor 111 Z x Echo Van Het Neer) took sixth place.
