DANIELLE Logan continued her run of good form when she won the Cladem Equi Store Amateur A Grand Prix in Cavan last Sunday. Riding the David Nelson-bred Demero (Womanizer x Touchdown), the pair recorded a jump-off time of 36.91 seconds in the 14-way decider to capture the win almost four seconds ahead of their closest rival.

The previous day the duo had won the Mini Grand Prix in the afternoon having taken the runner-up spot in the Power and Speed class that morning.

One week earlier they had finished as the runners-up in the Randox Antrim Show Grand Prix and at the start of July, they captured the Amateur Championship title in Balmoral.

“I’m delighted with the win. He’s such a star. I’m not even sure where we made up the time. I just went in and gave it a good go. I didn’t watch anyone before me, I think I’m better when I do that.

“He’s naturally very fast. A galloping track really suits him, tracks with plenty of room to move. I’ve had him since last year. He is a real family horse. He was bred by my good friend David Nelson, who continues to help me with him, so I’ve known him since he was born.

“I couldn’t believe it when I got the chance to have him for myself. He’s a bit of a yard favourite, everyone loves to follow his progress so it’s great fun.

“I work for myself as a beautician at home in Magheralin, Co Down, so he’s brilliant for me. I have another few young horses, but he’s the one I tend to concentrate on. You can take him out and hack him a couple of times a week and then bring him to show and he’ll jump fantastic. He is so reliable; horses like him are hard to come by, I’m lucky to have him.

“Unfortunately we didn’t qualify for Dublin this year. It was disappointing but you’ve got to take the good days with the bad.

“Next for us is the final of the Wilsons amateur league, which we are leading at the moment and then probably Mullingar”, Danielle told The Irish Field.

Jump-off

Just seven of the 14 through to the jump-off managed to keep a clean sheet. First to go Jen Lowry aboard Yeats County (Yeats x Ricàrdo Z) set the pace with a double clear in 40.97, which would be good enough for eventual third place.

The next clear came from Edel Kelly riding the Neil Turkington-bred Agustina (Virma x Utrillo Van De Heffinck) and they broke the beam in 42.30 for fifth.

The next double clear came from Joseph Moore and Master De Reve (Hermes De Reve x Master Imp) for owner/breeder Michael Murphy, they slotted into fourth in 41.53.

Joe Clinton and Garrion Del Gato’s double clear kept them just inside the winners’ line-up in sixth, while Ellen Mackay and Lanzamore (Lancelot x Master Imp) left all the fences intact but were slightly too slow for a place in 47.99.

Jessie O’Flynn Hall riding MMS Loreal (OBOS Quality x Rimilis) for breeder Mary McShane sliced over seven seconds off the time in 40.88 for eventual fifth place.

Last to go was Logan. She guided Demero to a skillful clear in the fastest time of the day to secure the victory.
