KILLOSSERY Lodge was a hive of activity last Saturday, as it played host to the penultimate round of the Mervue Equine Leinster Summer Tour. Each round went down to the wire, with valuable points being gained, ahead of the final at Mullingar Equestrian.

In the Coolquay Lodge-sponsored 1.35m division, 21 combinations went to post, with just five through to the jump-off; four delivered double clears. Harry Wood and BP Lion Man took the win, with the fastest double clear in 36.55 seconds. Owned by GBBS Int and bred by Kilmashogue Stud, the seven-year-old gelding is by Kannan and out of MHS Pembrook Lady. This combination took third place in the round at Flavours of Fingal and won at CoilÓg.

Kildare’s Edward Doyle Junior was runner-up with Oke Lulu Star, crossing the line in 38.03. Owned by Edward Widger and bred by Martina McCrory, the seven-year-old mare is by Luidam and out of B.Termie R 6. Jim Donahoe accounted for third place with Culdearg Clover Lad, when double clear in 39.57. Owned by Niamh Ó Donnabháin, the 15-year-old gelding is by Gelvin Clover and out of the Touchdown-sired Never Better.

Junior rider Jack M Murphy delivered the last of the double clears with Dinard H in a time of 49.12 for eventual fourth. This 14-year-old gelding is by Diarado and out of Roweena. Kerie Curtis put in a very fast round with her own Painrich, but four faults in 43.42 saw her take fifth place. This 14-year-old mare is by Tornesch and out of Pangea. Deirdre Doyle and Kancruise took sixth as fastest four-faulters in the first round in 72.14. Bred by Tom Doyle, the eight-year-old mare is by Kannan and out of Done Cruising.

There was a good following for the 1.20m division, with 48 combinations battling it out. Leading the victory lap was Children On Horses rider Robbie Sheehan and Fubalia, when double clear in 29.22 seconds.

This combination is no stranger to success, having been on the winning COH Nations Cup team in Compiegne, France, the FEI Youth Nations Cup in Hagen in June and on the European Championship team.

Deirdre Doyle was runner-up on her eight-year-old Kancruise, jumping a foot-perfect round in 29.97. Jim Donohoe was also clear aboard Culdearg Clover Lad in 30.48 for third.

A clear from David Lawler and JM Penelope in a time of 31.22 secured fourth place. Tracy Nolan took fifth place aboard home-bred five-year-old, Ballinaguilkey Ruby, when clear in 31.77. Sixth place was Michael Floody on Indella, clear in 32.08.

Formidable

In the 1.10m JS Horse Trucks two-phase class, 55 competitors went to post. Junior rider Cian Byrne is certainly proving to be a formidable competitor in this league, as he lodged another win. He and Ciao Bella, were double clear in 27.73 and added more points to the leaderboard. Tracy Nolan and Ballinaguilkey Heritage took second, keeping the poles intact in 28.03. Amateur rider Lisa Doyle (AA) slotted into third with Corland’s Clipper when clear in 28.27. Fellow amateur rider Ciara Kelly (AA) claimed fourth with Annestown Clover Concorde, crossing the line fractions behind in 28.85. Robbie Sheehan took fifth, when he partnered Ahare Olympic Flemmencio to clear in 29.28. Sixth went to junior rider Leeland Burtenshaw and Future Sky Trend, clear in 30.06.

The 1m class winner was Amateur rider Ciara Kelly, when fastest of the double clears in 29.35 aboard Annestown Clover Concorde. Jack Murphy was back in the ribbons taking the runner-up spot with Sam Salad, when clear in 32.10. A clear from Mia Murphy and Enniskerry Pierro in 34.66 secured third place, while Louise Murphy was fourth on the five-year-old Stella Darling, clear in 38.17. Slotting into fifth was Sophie Wilson and Alabama Cruise, clear in 38.59, while in sixth was Amanda-Jayne Comyn [A] aboard Eirian Gatsby, clear in 38.82.

The winner of the Cavalot Sport Horses 90cm class was amateur rider Clodagh Fitzpatrick [A] on Oxendene Rozi, with nothing to add in 37.44. Heather Stuart took second with four-year-old Dangerosa, clear in 40.38. A clear from Harry Dunne and Millfield Dutchy in 40.52 secured third, while in fourth was Ellie Gloster and Flexibles Fortune, as fastest four-faulter in 37.15. Gloster also took fifth with Renville’s Candy Boy, despite two down in the first round.
