Young Horse Eventing Pathway

EVENTING Ireland has recently introduced a Young Horse Eventing Pathway, an initiative to promote production and training of potential event horses and riders. Currently focused on four and five-year-olds, training days are being held at Clonmahon House, by kind permission of Michael McNally.

A grant has been received from DAFM to fund a four-year-old final at Lisgarvan House International on August 24th, with a first prize of €1,000. Organisers hope to secure equivalent funding for a five-year-old final, but would like to stress the importance of the training aspect, rather than the competition side. The first training day was held on July 4th and was fully subscribed, with riders appreciating the rare opportunity to train on grass. The next sessions are scheduled for July 23rd and August 6th at the same venue. Owners, breeders and any spectators are also very welcome and light refreshments are provided.
