CLONDALKIN Equine Club launched its first Annual Report (2021) depicting a busy and successful year for the Dublin-based organisation.
With trainer Johnny Murtagh among its patrons, the club worked successfully in 2021 with some members successful in their applications to RACE while others went on to complete post Leaving Certificate courses. Some members were also accepted on to two veterinary nursing courses at third level.
Board member Ann Corrigan said: “Our participants are the reason for our work. We are delighted to see positive outcomes and the success stories and how the work of ourselves and our members impact positively on their lives. This makes the work worthwhile and shows the real qualitative benefit of what we do.”
The Equine Club offers a livery service to horses owned by children in the Clondalkin and Lucan South area, continuing the tradition of urban horse ownership in the locality.
Opened in 2017, it provides a supportive and holistic environment for children and their families to give them a sense of belonging within their community.
The Clondalkin Equine Club prides itself on its work with children living in a marginalised community, supporting their participation in the club, nurturing them to be the best that they can be and encouraging them to complete their education.
It also promotes good animal welfare practice and teaches children responsible horse ownership and riding skills.
Equine Club Manager, Rachel Maher, said: “Our club is still seeking core funding and would be delighted to hear from anyone who would be interested in assisting the club and allow it to develop and to continue serving the community.
“This funding will allow our club to continue to employ workers from the local area to provide local children and the broader community access to this service and the benefits that that provides.
“We have a waiting list of children and young people in need of our services; the demand is most definitely there. If you would like to help us to meet this demand please get in touch,” she added.
