TO the great disappointment of all involved, last Sunday’s concluding ride phase of the Area 17 tetrathlon had to be cancelled with the results decided, and prizes presented, on the scores of the other three phases.

A large contingent of Irish Pony Club members had travelled up to Omagh for the tetrathlon but there was no questioning the decision of the organising Branch, the Seskinore Harriers, to cancel the ride phase as early as Saturday lunchtime. At this stage, there was no let-up in the heavy rain which fell through the remainder of Saturday and on Sunday as well.

The following statement was issued by the organisers. “Due to the extreme weather conditions we sadly had to cancel the XC element of the competition. We are so disappointed for our wonderful venue and hosts at Ash Hollow Equestrian. Everyone was so looking forward to taking on the challenge of your beautiful course built by Adam Stevenson.”

At time of writing, decisions regarding the qualifying places for Area 17 competitors to attend The Pony Club Tetrathlon Championships in England are being finalised in joint discussion with officers from PCUK, Branch District Commissioners and the Area 17 Tetrathlon co-ordinator. Members will be notified in due course.
