THE South Leinster region of Eventing Ireland has scheduled an equine event incident management seminar for December 17th at Punchestown Racecourse with facilitator Lesley Barwise-Munro MRCVS.

Barwise-Munro is a highly regarded professional in the field of equine veterinary care and emergency response. Currently serving as the Senior Veterinarian at Newcastle Racecourse, her extensive background includes serving as a treating veterinarian at prestigious events, including the Olympics and the World Equestrian Games.

Her knowledge and expertise in equine health and emergency response strategies are unparalleled, making her an ideal trainer for this event.

“We are confident that Ms Barwise-Munro’s guidance will provide invaluable insights and practical knowledge that can benefit our eventing community and other equestrian affiliates immensely,” Eventing Ireland chairman David O’Brien told The Irish Field.

Some of the topics to be covered include equine event incident control and management, human casualty extraction methods at equine events, horse falls at events - who is expected to do what.

There will also be a section on performing under pressure, with tips on how to maximise success at equine events.

Attendees will also do practical exercises and perform incident response scenarios with equipment and manikins to help get to grips with animal rescue techniques, equipment and planning.

Those scenarios will include trapped rider, horse in fence and horse in a confined space/trailer.

“We hope to make this event informative for all officials, athletes, fence judges, event organisers, course builders, members and volunteers with break out groups tailored to the attendees’ interests and expertise,” O’Brien said.

This training day will qualify for two CPD points for HSI Coaches. The cost is €20 per person and the day begins at 9am. Tickets can be purchased via www.itsplainsailing.com/org/sle
