MARK Sherry from Co Wicklow is sure to have been celebrating last weekend, as the Irish Sport Horse that he bred, EIC Up Too Jacco Blue, was in the ribbons at Saut Hermes in Paris.

The 13-year-old gelding is ridden by Austria’s Max Kühner and the pair have had numerous successes together. Last Friday night, they placed fifth in the five-star 1.50m speed class in Paris, where they jumped clear with a jump-off time of 62.85 seconds – just two seconds behind Kristaps Neretnieks from Latvia, who won the class.

Kühner and EIC Up Too Jacco Blue then followed this up with a fantastic runner-up finish in the five-star 1.55m two-round class on Saturday. From a start list of 20, there were just seven clear first rounds and they all kept a clean sheet second time out, so time was the deciding factor. Kühner’s time of 44.08 seconds was just 0.21 seconds behind Swedish winner, Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli on Kalinka Van De Nachtegaele (43.87).

EIC Up Too Jacco Blue (ISH) is by Chacco Blue (MECKL) out of Celestial Up Too (ISH) by ARD VDL Douglas (KWPN), owned by Hans Christian Jacobsen.
