EOIN McMahon’s former Championship medal-winning mount Mila has been sold to Swiss rider Nadja Peter-Steiner.
The future of the 13-year-old mare was up in the air after McMahon left Ludger Beerbaum’s German stable at the end of 2024 after seven years, but it has now been revealed that the grey mare by Monte Bellini has been sold.
Peter-Steiner revealed that the mare was a surprise from her mother and was awaiting her when she arrived at the international show in Doha. “A huge thank you to my mom for this incredible surprise and to Ludger Beerbaum and his team for his involvement and all his valuable advice,” she wrote on social media. The pair finished third in the two-star Grand Prix at the venue last weekend.
Mila had been at Beerbaum’s stable since she was a youngster. Under the German legend, she won the 2022 Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Doha and Mexico City. McMahon took over the ride in 2023 and, among their successes, was a team silver medal at the 2023 European Championships in Milan, where they finished ninth individually.
Their last show as a partnership was the GCL Super Cup in Riyadh in Novemeber, where they jumped three clear rounds for Riesenbeck International, before McMahon went out on his own with his girlfriend, Sweden’s Wilma Hellström. The pair are now based in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands.
