Ros Canter is world number one

BRITISH European champion Ros Canter has overtaken New Zealand’s Tim Price as the eventing world number one. Price held the top spot for 11 months. Canter’s remarkable performance at the recent FEI Eventing European Championship at Haras du Pin has propelled her from third to the number one spot, a position she last held in April 2019.

In the show jumping rankings, Ireland’s Shane Sweetnam has slipped from seventh to 10th place and remains the highest ranked Irish rider ahead of Daniel Coyle in 13th and Darragh Kenny in 16th. Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann, who added another team gold to his collection at the FEI Jumping European Championships in Milan, maintains his world number one slot.

Irish Quarter Horse bootcamp

THE Irish Quarter Horse Association (IQHA), in partnership with Hollypark Stables Limerick, is hosting an IQHA POEP “Bootcamp” Clinic on Western Inspired Horsemanship on Saturday, September 23rd next. Blenheim International Horse Trials

IRISH riders were well placed heading into today’s (Saturday) cross-country phase at the Blenheim International Horse Trials. In the CCI4*-L, Ian Cassells was sitting in 13th as we went to press with Master Point on 30.2 and in 25th with Millridge Atlantis on 31.6. Austin O’Connor was in 27th with Isazsa on 31.7 and also 25th with Billy Beaufort on 32.6. In the CCI4*- S for eight/nine-year-olds, Clare Abbott was the best placed Irish rider in eighth place scoring 27.9 with Mr Mighty.

Pony riders fill podium

IRISH youth show jumping athletes are in action in the FEI Youth Nations Cup Final at Sentower Park in Belgium this weekend. Irish riders filled four of the top five places in Friday morning’s 1.30 Grand Prix for Ponies. Lily Tunney and Fireman won ahead of Kian Dore and Sparkling Lackaghmore Joey in second, James Derwin (Rincoola Babog) were third and newly crowned European champions Paddy Reape and Fernando finished fifth. This followed excellent team results on Thursday when Eoin Brennan (Eskola M), James Brennan (MHS I’m The One), Stephen Gibbons (Cassius Z) and Coen Williams (Conthanja) won the Prijs Karel Cox FEI Jumping Nations Juniors 1.40m competition. Also on Thursday, the Irish pony riders finished second in the FEI Jumping Nations Cup. The team comprised Kian Dore (Sparkling Lackaghmore Joey), Emily Moloney (Lady Crown), Paddy Reape (Fernando) and James Derwin (Rincoola Babog).

Underage eventing championships

The FEI Eventing European Championships for Juniors and Young Riders are well underway in Montelibretti with Ireland’s young rider team in a strong position after dressage. Chloe Fagan (Comte Ligniere Z) scored an impressive 25.70 while Heather O’Connor (HSH Has It All) scored 32, Alannah Kelly (Cooley Bounce) scored 32.5 and Godfrey Gibbons (Milchem Free Spirit) scored 32.8.
