Youngstock classes

THE youngstock classes at the Tattersalls Ireland July Show still fail to attract many entries but chances are that Sunday’s champion and reserve will make their presence felt at Dublin.

Judge Norman Allen chose the pair from the two-year-old colts and geldings’ class, a Connolly’s Red Mills qualifier in which they were the only entries. His winner, and champion, was Tim Martin’s Imperator, an Emperor Augustus gelding who, on his debut, was supported, as usual, by his other three owners.

The bay was bred in Co Wexford by Eileen Noctor out of the Coille Mor Hill mare Kemella Clover Diamond whose previous successful produce include this fellow’s four-year-old full-sister Sister Act II who won the small hunter class here on Saturday under Lesley Jones. The latter had the ride on the brown mare as the Martins’ daughter Nicola, who partnered her to victory in the ladies’ astride championship at Balmoral, is currently sidelined with broken bones in her wrist.

The reserve champion, one of a number of late entries on the day, was Dessie Gibson’s two-year-old champion from Balmoral, Kief Dream Catcher. This brown Dignified van’t Zorgvliet gelding was bred in Co Cork by Kieran Fahey out of the Kings Master mare Madame Noir whose previous produce include Kief Queen B (by Munther) and Kief Craigs Master (by Craigsteel).
