A BREEDING right to sire sensation Havana Grey headlines the catalogue for the Tattersalls Online January Sale, which takes place from January 14th to 15th.

It comes ahead of Havana Grey’s first season at a private fee, with Whitsbury Manor Stud restricting the number of outside mares visiting the stallion.

As Joe Callan, Whitsbury’s head of bloodstock and sales, explained at the time: “This is due to the importance of managing his mares to be of suitable height for him in the covering shed and for his own welfare and continued good fertility.”

The 98-lot catalogue also features breeding rights to Ardad, Harry Angel and Kameko, along with three stores, five yearlings, 22 broodmares and 64 horses in and out of training.

Joseph O’Brien is among the Irish trainers consigning, offering the 133-rated hurdler Boldog (Lot 4), who was last seen finishing second in a beginners’ chase on his second start over fences. Eoin McCarthy’s Scotcantou (Lot 36) won a maiden hurdle at Galway on his penultimate start, with the form boosted by runner-up Downmexicoway recently bolting up at Down Royal.

Martinstown Stud’s trio includes listed-winning hurdler Magic Tricks, who made a winning chase debut last year, while Denis Hogan’s sole offering, Dahab (Lot 7), has gone close on his last two starts in Dundalk maidens.

Highlights of the breeding stock include Miss Bates (Lot 86), a half-sister to the dam of Grade 1-placed juvenile Arizona Blaze, and Climene (Lot 78), a Frankel half-sister to multiple Group 1 winners Meandre and Mqse De Sevigne.

Alne Park Stud’s draft features the Group 3-placed mare Hells Babe and the Grade 2-placed hurdler Kalahari Queen, who is offered in foal to Subjectivist.

Bidding will commence at 11am on Tuesday, January 14th, with bidding on the first lot scheduled to close from 11am the following day.
