ARQANA’s November Yearling Sale has a decidedly lower profile than those of the venue’s August and October yearling sales, as demonstrated by last year’s average price of €6,786. In its four renewals, the median has held steady at €5,000, while the top price reached new heights 12 months ago at €85,000.

The inaugural edition peaked at €57,000, falling to €30,000 a year later, before hitting €27,000. Prices aren’t always a good indication of a horse’s ability, as we all know. The sale’s star graduate, Beaute Cachee cost just €1,500 in 2020.

Third in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes last December, the daughter of Literato gained her top-flight success in the Jenny Wiley Stakes in April, before notching a pair of Graded races. Earlier this week, the Chad Brown trainee sold to Blue Diamond Stud for $700,000 - quite the mark-up on her yearling price.

Connections of Engaliwe may also be celebrating a significant return at the Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale next month, the four-year-old daughter of Galiway catalogued with a Group 3 and listed win to her name, along with a Group 3 third. She sold for €8,500 at the November Yearling Sale and was resold by Sherbourne Lodge at the venue’s Summer Sale for €15,000 the following year.

187 yearlings have been catalogued for the sale’s latest renewal, which takes place on Saturday, November 18th, from 11am.
