THE top-level action gained added intensity on the second day at the Curragh with the highlight of the four Group 1 races on the clock the victory of Sonnyboyliston (116) who landed the final classic of the season with a strong staying performance to deny the brave Twilight Payment.

Predictably Amhran Na Bhfiann made the running with Twilight Payment (116), akin to his success in a trial four weeks ago, taking a good view of Aidan O’Brien’s front-runner. Turning for home Declan McDonagh asked his mount to close on the leader, knowing he would be giving the other riders a tow into the race but, to the credit of his partner who was tenacious in posting a closing sectional of 39.14 seconds, they only gave best in the final furlong.
