THE Juddmonte team may have been denied with Elite Power at Saratoga last Saturday but a day earlier the iconic green and pink silks won another Grade 1 race when Idiomatic trounced some top-class fillies in the Personal Ensign.

The nine-furlong race had an odds-on favourite in Nest, Todd Pletcher’s mare having won all three of her previous starts at Saratoga. But she was unable to quicken on the sloppy track and had to settle for third, over four lengths behind the winner, and a neck behind her old rival, Secret Oath.

Clariere, another regular in these Grade 1 stakes for fillies, put in a rare poor performance to finish a distant fifth of six.

Trained by Brad Cox, Idiomatic is a four-year-old homebred by Curlin. She was lightly raced at three before steadily climbing the ranks this season. This was her first Grade 1 start and she made all.

“I want to congratulate Juddmonte, Prince Khalid and his family for keeping the legacy going,” Cox said. “They have a tremendous operation worldwide and this is a huge update for the farm and their operation. This filly is a homebred, so it means a lot.”

Cox said the Grade 1 Juddmonte Spinster on October 8th at Keeneland would be a “strong possibility” with the ultimate objective being the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff in November at Santa Anita.”
