Jonbon proved far too sharp for Energumene in Saturday's Grade 1 Clarence House Chase at Ascot on Saturday.

The race had been billed as potentially one of the best races of the season and a grandstand finish still looked very possible as Jonbon led his old Irish rival into the home straight.

But the contest was quickly ended when Jonbon put in another fluent leap at the second last and Energumene was a little bit slower over it. The gap grew to five or six lengths at the last where again Jonbon put in a spectacular jump before running on strongly to score by over six lengths.

In truth, the 8/13 favourite was not fully extended to do so.

The J.P. McManus-owned nine-year-old made it 17 wins from 20 races under rules and strengthened his position as favourite for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham.
